It is a very easy conversion to do even more so with a donor car but being honest I doubt it is worth it in the long run.

I disagree... If its easy to do then of course its worth it, the knowledge you gain from doing an engine conversion can help you in the long run fixing, upgrading parts... or the confidence to chuck a 1.8t in there

Vr engines can be picked up cheap

Damn right, do what lowlifedubber has done, bought a vr... kept the engine and bits needed... sell the rest for more than the origional purchase  :grin: :evil:

Been there, done it. You'll never regret the noise and the conversion is a piece of p*ss if you have a full donor car. Can be done over a weekend  :wink:

I got a Highline VR donor for £400, itook the bits I needed, including the leathers  :cool: and made £600 back on the rest of the bits and the shell  :wink:
Thursday morning my car was a GTI 8v, Friday teatime it was a VR
The extra coin I made from the rest of the donor bought my new exhaust  :cool:
The best thing I ever did to my car and cost me next to nothing!!
One thing to note, if yours is on a K, then you will need the pedal box from the donor too which are a real pain in the sphincter to change  :cry:
