Can I do a smoke test myself by taking puck out, blocking it, removing maf and pumping smoke into the tip??  :embarassed:

Apparently it is dangerous to just pump smoked air into it, you need a certain type of gas or something, otherwise it could go bang!!!

But I have heard of some people using a disco smoke machine to do it!!

As far as I know he said he had to smoke test two ways, from two different locations in the engine bay, I just can't remember the locations. One for vacuum, and the other for brake, I think  :undecided: something like that. He put 15psi through it, and the smoke was coming up above the dipstick and around the gap in between the metal plate that fixes to the inlet manifold and radiator. He first thought it was the intercooler, (I have a side mount oem) we checked the plastic pipes, like the cold air feed and the other one in the location in front of the dipstick, but it wasn't these. After this he blocked off the top of the dipstick tube with his thumb, which seemed to stop as much smoke, and that was his diagnosis. The smoke is not always that easy to see though, as you need a bright light or a uv light to spot it.

Dis should definately be stickied also how much more boost did you get by blockin up your dipstick also wat did you use to seal your dipstick to hold 20 psi boost through a dipstick tube

You shouldn't have boost pressure in your sump. End of.

If you have then something has gone wrong. If you put smoke into the intake of the turbo, it will go through the boost pipes, intercooler, past the throttle body, into the intake, and then stop at either a closed inlet or exhaust valve or NRV.

My best guess is that one of your NRV's isnt working.

This gives you a good idea where the smoke can escape from:

when I pressure tested mine I started at the pipe after the turbo, saved blocking things off all the time

That is an awesome diagram :afro:

I think so, but can't remember to be sure

Ohh, I see. I have deleted the pcv system and replaced it with a catch can, so am I right in thinking that I don't have an nrv any more? or is there also an nrv underneath the metal plate that the dipstick is connected to ? Because I think it may be possible that the mechanic suggested it was the top of the dipstick because he couldn't figure out where the smoke was coming from! or maybe it is underneath that tray in one of the pipes. I will have a look today as I intend to do the n249 bypass, so long as it doesn't start raining

BTW, thanks for the diagram, it explains the n249 bypass rather well!

If you deleted the PCV system and didn't put an NRV in that's your problem right there

cobalt6700, when you say "didn't put an NRV in" are you on about the hockey puck black thing that goes into the tip, or the pcv valve? Because I did put the black Hockey puck back into the tip, and didn't re-use the pcv valve.
