a new turbo wouldn't have killed your gearbox

you recon it wasn't fitted properly to the new engine then? am i right in saying you shouldnt need to top up the gearbox oil, cus apparently it lasts forever? or is that bullsh*t?

or maybe just you were unlucky and gear box was gonna go anyways.. a new turbo isnt gonna kill your box, plenty of people go put 300 bhp through a mk4 box and im sure theres would go straight away if yours did. just check gear oil, remove the 17 mm allen key out of the front of the box and if oil runs out its fine. if loads of oil runs out quick its over full so let it go till its slowly running out the box, check the oil in the box for bits of metal, but like a guy said earlyer on here not your cambelt over tight is it? your mate know owt about cars?,

Check and make sure the gearbox has oil in it first.

check the oil like the guy above said. coz correct me if im wrong but when oil levels are low on boxes dont they normaly kill the 5th gear first? because its first one to have no oil around it because its at the end of the box?

the box was fine before the new engine and turbo, but then im not mechanic to say it was on its way out anyway! and no havent been ragging it, wearing the new turbo in first :)

i will check the oil in the box and see what state it is in!

whats currently the cheapest option? get it repaired? new one? spent nearly 2k last week getting it back on the road so money is a bit tight at the moment!

Makes you wonder if they have put something together wrong  :undecided:

Try and find a secondhand gearbox.
