Mike how come you thought you needed to replace the abs module?

It was something i read somewhere maybe on here they said to try a different ecu first with the code i'm getting and you can sometimes try and fix your original one somehow following a guide but as it turns out it hasn't cured it so it may well actually be the pump this time there quite common to fail on mk3's i believe  i'l update if i manage to get it done getting fed up of no brakes now and again etc lucky i'm used to older cars where brakes hardly existed

Ah right, well my abs is out of action most of the time now, when the light is not on i have tested it and it works great so i know the pump works, code that comes up every time is rear right, ive changed the sensor,,speed ring looks clean and secure, ive even swapped the rear left and right plugs over and it still throws the same code up :undecided: also the handbrake light will come on after a while totally random, either sitting in traffic (not on the brake) or just cruising along,i believe this to be another sympton of a failed ecu, tryed a couple of different modules but they were not suitable as in one was from an 8v and the other was vr6 but had a different letter at the end,the quest to fix this continues

This is what i am getting the handbrake light is on mostly all the time but funily thats when the brakes are at there best if it goes off then they go all funy. After reading a few things i thought it was the ecu but now i'm unsure still talking about it more i'm going to try swap out the pump anyway just for good measure. I want this sorted really as the esp works through the abs system which is a good feature i also believe the 16v has traction control built in to it also? i'm getting codes for all abs sensors and the main code is the pump failure code so... all my abs sensors and rings are brand new as not long done them all using genuine parts! doing my head in

Just a quick question did u clear the codes after u fitted the ecu???? as this can result in error codes coming back,

Be VERY careful when handbrake light comes on. This is the sign of complete system failure and it means the rear bias isnt working. I found the out once when i broke hard and the rear end tried to over take the front and nearly put side on into a parked car.

That means ECU has failed!!

If you have an ECU send it to me and i can see if i can repair it.

yes i removed the codes after refitting the new ecu and they returned after a small trip

Yeah ive had the back end almost do that  that's one of the reasons i'd like it fixed can be very entertaining sometimes. I will be very annoyed if i have bought a ecu and pump that is knackered i will let you know if i need your repair skills mate cheers
