I thought the ABF o2a and the AUM o2j had the same ratios? Wouldn't that mean its quite suited for the turbo? I do like your idea though, Only thing im struggling on ATM is gearbox and how to set up the mounts. As in whats needed for it, do you need to weld new brackets on also?

No welding.
Just use Mk3 16v gearbox mounts...the O2A and O2J 'boxes share the same casing.

I know brad loves his 16v box but I would seriously recommend getting a box with taller ratios such as the box from a mk3 diesel. The 16v box is designed for 16v engine which has relatively low torque, whereas the diesel box is much more suited to a turbo engine which has a lot more torque and really thrives with the longer gears

your choice but I'd suggest looking into more info on gearbox choice as its quite an important part of your set up :)

Brad has also said he is fitting a VR6 FD to lengthen the gearing. 3.68 to 3.3 IIRC.

yeah hes doing that to his 02j box but up until thats fitted hes running a standard 16v box i believe, the wheel spin must be mental :P

all 02a and 02j ratios can be found in the clubgti transmission FAQ, give it a read its very informative as is the rest of the gearbox and 1.8t engine section to anyone doing a conversion :)

thats correct, i am surprised Dan went for the ratios he did TBH and didn't just do this too, the ratios of the 16v box are pretty dam perfect for the 1.8T (wheel spin is present tho as said, unless you really feather in the power), the VR final drive will make it as perfect as you can get for sheer performance, pick up etc, well that coupled with the wavetrac LSD

Its getting sent to Martin (Hotgolf) next week so ill let you know the outcome of it all.. iv been working hard with him and i trust his opinion.

My 02J is getting fully rebuilt by martin so its basically going to be like a brand new box

also fitting a lightened Flywheel at the same time. can't bloody wait :-)

My full mk3 set up is for sale, cable shift, Tower (refurbished looks mint) and early 1.8T shift weight.. think Funkyfive off here is buying my 02A box tho

Going from memory here so don't quote me but if I remember right the asd box has the same ratios as the dpa 1st-4th and just has a longer 5th and final drive, so if you put a vr6 final drive into a dpa it would be similar to the asd you would just have the nice long 5th for cruising (90mph just under 3000rpm)

Each to their own though mine is imo perfect for my setup but I don't have the bam like brad just a puny aum :p
