The Bluemotion story may have some truth, VW are making the Polo Blue GT, a warm eco hatch thing:

Hmm, though it's not quite a bluemotion GTI.

No, but you could imagine a "Golf Blue GTI" with the 1.8T or 2.0T with cylinder deactivation, only 17" wheels and the full Bluemotion aero undertray, no?

I get what you mean, and I agree. In fact I reckon a Bluemotion model with GTI styling would be a very popular option - the current Mk6 bluemotion is a great looking car actually, but the magazine comes across more as suggesting that VW will be trying to compromise between economy and performance...

...GTD, GT, TSI - aren't these already sort of "cheaper running costs with added sportiness" models?

For example, with regards to the Polo, I think a Polo GTD would sell better (think Ibiza FR, Fabia VRS Gen1)

I reckon the artist in Car Magazine was given five minutes to design a MK7 and gone with it. All these pictures that will be coming out are nothing but a way to sell mags and make it look like they are in the know!

When I see the real car and see the real figures then and only then will I form an opinion.

Jim

Quite agree with you Jim, although the front is growing on me (still don't like the back though).

Maybe reintroduce the driver model then. As there basically gti looks but more economy.
Current bluemotion looks like an R anyway
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI

GTD and similar are a mix of sport and economy, however I think VW's marketing machine is focusing on this new-ish niche with the Blue label with
a message of you can have your cake and eat it.

With regards to the Polo, my personnal preference would be for the new Blue model, 60mpg and the sweet 1.4 engine.
Now = 2011 MK6 GTI - Reflex Silver
Past = 2006 MK5 GTI - Tornado Red and Solid Black

Surely that's the GT?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The GT does not have the GTI styling though. I guess the GTD is the modern version of the golf Driver.

Granted, but Driver only had the GTI's wheel arches, rear spoiler, twin headlight grille and 14" steel wheels. Everything else was fairly basic spec.

I'm sure that with the exception of the ride height, rear bumper/exhaust and seat fabric, the GTD is identical to the GTI. Infact you can cross off seat fabric from that list now, as they both get leather.

Pure speculation from car mag.
They have as much idea what the mk7 will look like as you or I.

I'd like to see more unique styling for the GTI so that people don't ever confuse it with a GTD
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

GTD differences:

Wheels
Rear exhausts
White stitching on wheel / handbrake, gear lever, floor mats, rather than red
chrome trim on grill rather than red
no red brake calipers

I'm not sure there's any difference in ride height, though I may be wrong!
