The GT does not have the GTI styling though. I guess the GTD is the modern version of the golf Driver.

Granted, but Driver only had the GTI's wheel arches, rear spoiler, twin headlight grille and 14" steel wheels. Everything else was fairly basic spec.

I'm sure that with the exception of the ride height, rear bumper/exhaust and seat fabric, the GTD is identical to the GTI. Infact you can cross off seat fabric from that list now, as they both get leather.
mk 2 was less similar than the mk1 version.
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI
34 years of GTI ownership.

I bought this mag for this article while on hols last week. They seemed to be saying the ST and VXR were far the better hot hatches. The GTi as usual with its 217 would be off the pace but will be the consumate all rounder as it is now.

So no real change as far as I can see!!!

The GTI offers the consummate all round package in that it is a soft hot hatch but can also do the school run, the weekly shopping run and you can get a baby buggy and luggage in the boot.

Doubt anyone will say these new additions from Vauxhall and Ford will prove so practical.

Not so sure that the ST won't be pushing the GTI more this time round.  Now it doesn't have the gas guzzling engine and stupid turning circle I bet the new ST will be challenging the MK7 GTI a bit further than the old ST did.

I certainly will be test driving one when they come out.

What a lot of nonsense - I have the magazine also and it dose not say the Focus and VAX are better. It's a quality car magazine that only puts it's conclusions down when cars have been test driven. Wait for the real world driving before looking closely at the numbers

It said they'd be "more focussed", "faster" etc. Forget I used the word "better" then - wrong choice of word. Everything else is just stuff we knew already.
