I understand what it's for, but I think that for a big chunk of the public (like bobbarley) would rather it be inside a protective case and then they can wire it up to TV or whatever they want and have internet on it. That way there's no risk of ruining the unit. As you know static electricity that we humans carry in us can ruin the delicate PCB. All it needs is a removable case so you can build it into a TV or whatever you want.

Lol, wtf?!  You should see how many spare computers and half build PC's I have lying around.  I would just make my own case.  I've been building, modifying, upgrading computers for about 13 years now    Worth mentioning that in those 13 years I've never once used an anti static wristband, and have never known any static charge effect a computer I've been working on.  I find touching a radiator before you start is enough to disperse any residual static charge you might be holding on to.

I absolutely agree this computer is not for your normal every day consumer.  But then again, they're not aimed at your normal member of the public.  They're aimed at schools, programmers and computer addicts.

I want to get one and use it as a media centre for the TV.  Then I'm going to try to get one to fit inside a keyboard!

Got an Xbox & Kinect for media centre goodness, I think it'll end up being a web browser based machine for my daughters, I could probably fit one in their 26" bedroom TV easily  They'll have a TV, Laptop, Mac, Tablet, xbox and this in their room if I did go ahead with an install for them - wish I had gadgets like that when I was their age

I have an Xbox but I don't like it very much for media stuff.  Kinect is clumsy and slow for menus etc and Lovefilm has an awful selection.

I'll probably use the Pi to stream iPlayer to the TV, also HD and divx movies from my vast (legal...) collection.

Really? I found it easy, just say "Xbox, play video" then "yes" to confirm you'll need your controller then select the computer / device that holds the video on with the controller and browse to it. Might be easier with the xbox remote?

I was up at 5.50 that morning to order one. Literally refreshed at 6am and the sites were already down for me, absolutely gutted. Had any e-mail from RS Components to say they've got my name down, will be in touch by end of the week...

Cannot wait to have one :D

Looking at a 4-6 waiting time on the next batch :-/ But from that point onwards, they should be able to cope with demand a bit better.

I'll definitely be getting one at some point. They're working on an XBMC port for it, which will be nice. Just buy a USB IR receiver/remote that's supported and away you go! I do hope in the future we see gigabit ethernet though, but I can see why they've not bothered. The network interface runs off USB, so the maximum throughput is something like 420mbps?

I'd quite like one as a little web server that I could run Nagios on too. :)
