PX Value at dealers
« on: 03 February 2012, 17:06 »
So went to Lookers VW at middlesbrough today to try and do a deal on a new Golf R, wanted to trade in my 59 plate GTI (12,000 miles, absolutely mint etc) and got offered £15K and £300 extra if i left the BBS CK's on!!

It's hard to gauge a PX value, has anyone any idea's on what price i should be looking for.

Oh he also said he'd knock a grand off the RRP on the Golf R. :undecided:

Going to try Pulman VW @ Durham tomorrow and see what they say.

lookers in 'boro are p!sstakers

seriously i went to look at an r32 and a gti last year and their part ex value on my van was a fooking insult.

be prepared to get 1000 phone calls of them asking if you have bought a car yet too. honestly they're pests.

pullman in durham are a much better dealership. not pushy to sell at all, just leave you to it and don't phone you up all the time.

p.s ill give you £301 for the BBS's if your chopping them in

You can try this to give you an idea (a back door to Glasses guide)

(and I'll up the offer on the BBS's )

Did Pulman's give you a fair price on your PX then?

I understand that most dealers no longer use Glasses guide (is it CAP they now use?) but it gives you an indication of prices.

Just checked on http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices/used/volkswagen/golf/gti-2009/43134/?yearplate=91 which gives a completely different price.

I have a 2009/59 5 door (DSG) with hardly any spec (21.5k miles) which (5 weeks ago) was up for £17980 if that helps any?

The dealer will make not only on your car (if buying new) but also on your trade-in.  They can't have it al ways - or can they?

I find the best way is to see what price generally Vw are selling them for and then knock 2k- 2.5k off

in the end i sold private and went in with cash. that lookers just seemed to much like evans halshaw to me. really pushy, even though i said I'm just looking i got followed around by the salesman and he wouldn't leave us alone then got bombarded with phone calls.

when i went to pulman i just said i like the car and he gave me the keys then left me alone for half an hour to play around with it.

i bought the car and got £1300 off the screen price with free service for 3 years so didn't do badly.

i think pulman would be more likely to do you a deal anyway

So they offered you £16k against the full price of an R then?

To be fair, they could buy "your" car in the trade for less than £16k, but as it stands, they're not discounting the new car at all. You need to work out how much you are prepared to pay to change, then start haggling.

However if you go to a dealer with a pricy car to px, they have to consider that they will not get all the money for the new car until they have sold yours. The best deals are always done with either an old banger or no px. Unless you are prepared to sell your car privately and buy an old £500 banger to ride around in in the mean time, I'm afraid most dealers will pull your pants down.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
