Gearbox or Clutch foobarred after remap?! UPDATE
« on: 20 January 2012, 21:18 »
Evening all,

Just on my way back from remap (Thanks Rtech ) and after 3 hours of being stuck in traffic I needed to stop for petrol. So fill up, pay, start up and head off. Suddenly its hard to engage gears, they'll eventually go in but sometimes they'll miss completely. So I take it easy and get her home. Is the remap prematurely killing the clutch or the gearbox?!

forgot to say it was slipping. it was only like this after remap. Before remap there was a spongey feel at the bottom of pedal travel so i suspected the clutch needed replacing soon but wondering if the remap has just killed it quicker?

yes a map will kill the clutch quicker due to the extra power its been putting through it, and i suspect you had a play will all that extra power on the way back

So if it takes a bit 'force' to get your car into 1st and 2nd, which mine does (only on first and 2nd), and you can feel almost like a 'crunch' when getting in gear if you do what this vid does could that cure that issue?

Thanks

damp road, remap test drive = wheel spin in third  the gearbox wouldnt be a cause would it as i don't want to buy a new clutch and have it fitted to still have the same issues. I know the symptoms was a slipping clutch but difficult to engage gears? It was clunky when getting into all gears before but this is completely different

My vr6 was like that and it turned out to be the gear linkage

if gears are hard to select   its suggests the clutch isn't disengadeing fully,  its hydralic you chould allways bleed it before  pronounceing the clutch or box dead.  just as likely a leacky / worn  master or slave cyl
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
