VW PDI seems a joke. ALOT of new GTI owners have stories to tell unfortunately, me included

Go on then, lets here yours....  maybe you could start a new thread; "nightmares at PDI" or sumthing. Reckon there'd be heaps of stories to come out.

delivered brand new with scratched interior door card and a scratched headlight

went in for new light following week under warranty (after having to return the same day i picked the car up to complain!). then waste a morning in the waiting area and watch the 'mechanic' reverse my car into an office chair lying around on the workshop floor.

a lot of arguing, high blood pressure and almost total lose of control later, and promises of 'compensation' (though the car was not in any way damaged) i went home to find my bumper and grille not fitted properly.

got a meal for me and the wife, a tank of super unleaded and GTI mats for my troubles though so not too bad.

must admit thought the franchise has another dealership in my area and that one seems very good though so a lesson learned.

Dilema; Help/comments please.
I ordered black door sill trims to be fitted. On inspection, part of the trim is clearly visible from the outside when the door is closed. I am not too sure if I like this or not, so I queried the positioning with the dealer who assured me they were fitted correctly.
Does it spoil the appearance?

On hindsight I should have ordered transparent ones. I was told they were fitted using a heat treatment method, so I'm wondering if i can get them swopped for the transparent ones or if its too late. I shall ask the question first thing Monday.

I think that if you removed the door seal and fitted the Cill protectors tight up you would not see them on the out side!!
If you get what I mean?

these stretch easy if too much heat is applied so i would guess whoever fitted them got too carried away with the heat gun

i suppose you could use a scalpel and straight edge to trim it down but on a new car its a p!ss take

Hi there

Currently exploring scuff plates myself and had at hand a great thread which will show you how they should be fitted

Hope this helps

I have a set of the door silks at home for the 5 door and from memory it does not say anything about using heat to fit them

If I was that dealership I would have been very embarrased to hand the car over with the door seals fitted so poorly.

p.s. your new car looks fantastic and its a really touching story about how you came to own one.

Sorry for my lateness but let me add my congratulations to you. Your car looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of it when you have your new wheels on it.

I'm sure your dad will be smiling as you enjoy driving it.

Todays update on the sill trims;
Visited dealer (who was not embarrassed in any way.....) and after close examination of a "standard" Golf door/body/sill area, it appears that there is a slight difference in the contours to those on a GTI. The sill trims I have had fitted are for "standard" Golf's and therefore DO NOT fit the contours of my GTI correctly! Hense they run "out of line" as they go towards the back. (see photos).
Solution; They will use steel ruler and scalpul and to trim excess off so they are not visible externally.

And on a better note; Car looking better by the day; Still waiting for "golf ball" gear knob/gater (Ed35) to arrive. (hopefully tomorrow) Mirror casings sprayed and fitted :smug: Just needs wash and good polish.

Here's another glimpse. Keeping "full view" under my hat til Sat'day! 4 LONG days to go.......

ps; I'm a very modest, quiet bloke...normally, so sorry if i'm seen to be showin off with all these posts, pics, etc but this is a hell of a thing for me. Luvin every minute of the "GTI experience" right from day 1 and just wanna share it with fellow enthusiasts. Thanks for puttin up with me :embarassed:
