My very first VW is here at last!
« on: 07 January 2012, 19:31 »
After waiting almost 8 months to the day, my GTI is now at the dealers  Ordered 11.5.10, I will take delivery on 14.1.12.
Never been able to afford a new VW but after dad recently passed away and left me a nice wedge of cash I decided to treat myself to a GTI.
I'll put up some pics and would appreciate any comments good or bad.
Arrival day at dealer;

While waiting () for it to arrive I've been "falling in luv" with the Ed35 (specially the Watkins 18"ers), which I didn't know about when I ordered GTI
looks stunning in Candy. pic courtesy of Ginge 35Edition - thanks

but truly awesome in red and lowered!

So I asks the dealer if he can "swop" the wheels.  No can do but I can have them fitted and keep the Monza's. Sharp intake of breath when he told me the price.......but after some maths and many sheets of screwed up paper, I bit the bullett. Well dad would have approved so what the heck!
So here it is with the dark steel Watkins - and I'm so pleased I went for it. Dull day when I took the pic but will do better next time. Next job is to have mirror casings sprayed gloss black, a proper wash and polish and just pray for a nice sunny day next Saturday :smug:

ps; more pics to follow when I get the keys!  Number plate is a tribute to dad (His initials used). Thank you dad

Great story mate and I'm sure you'll love it. I wasnt sure about the wheels but they do look good. I bought my black mirror caps from someone selling their R covers.

Or check these out, just found them on eBay

Welcome to the fourm.

Thanks Jim.  I've been going through a lot of the threads on the forum for quite a while now which has also got the "hype" going for me. Can't wait to get behind the wheel. The last "fast car" I had was a Ford Escort RS Turbo on an E plate way way back.... Funny; that was white too! I think this GTI will look much better after a good clean and on a brighter day.

Congrats mate! I really like the Watkins rims, i wonder what they'd look like against steel grey cos they're a strange colour?? Hmm......

I saw both types at the dealers. I reckon a dark colour car (like steel grey, red, black) should be fitted with the lighter bright chrome ones and light colour (candy) cars should be fitted with the dark steel wheels. The contrasts make all the difference IMO.

Dilema; Help/comments please.
I ordered black door sill trims to be fitted. On inspection, part of the trim is clearly visible from the outside when the door is closed. I am not too sure if I like this or not, so I queried the positioning with the dealer who assured me they were fitted correctly.
Does it spoil the appearance?

On hindsight I should have ordered transparent ones. I was told they were fitted using a heat treatment method, so I'm wondering if i can get them swopped for the transparent ones or if its too late. I shall ask the question first thing Monday.

Hi there your car looks great with the ed35 wheels...not so sure about the black sill trims....My dealer never told me about the ed35 as he was trying to sell me a new MK6 GTI, however seen the write up on the internet....so I've place an order and due around Feb, black with the grey wheels....

That doesn't look right to me mate, i think it's cobblers about the heat treatment though! They're just stuck on. I'd be getting them removed.

They look like theyre lined up properly tbh, more of a design flaw...can they not be trimmed so that it isnt visible?

Heat traetment....meh.
Its just sticky back plastic at the end of the day.

Like the new wheels btw, remind me of the old helios wheels that came on the Phaeton.
