Hi mate, welcome to the fold.

I, like you, joined only a few weeks ago but what an experience it is. I’m genuinely sorry to hear about your dad. I’m sure he would have loved you to have an awesome car like the Gti

Love the look of your car – candy white is, of course, the fastest colour! I hope the stealers make a good job of the sill strips – eventually. The thought of any spanner monkey near my paintwork with a knife makes me  though

As for the first detail; I don’t think a light hand polish – like AutoGlym SRP will do any harm. Clay can give good results, I have used it on my other cars, but unless you keep the area well lubed, there is risk of lightly marring the surface of the paint. Equally effective instead to remove the tiny fall out specks on the paint (very noticeable on white) is something like 'Iron X' or 'Purple Rain'. Simply spray, wait, then rinse. There are pleanty of tar removal products on the market that are also spray on, wash off.
I’d thoroughly recommend removing and properly waxing the wheels as soon as possible to give them the best start in life. Chemical Guys Wheel Seal is good, but Collinite 476 is my personal favourite wax. SOOOOOOO durable and the beading is extreme. Use it on the wheels and car body too, it’s great and the dirt doesn't stand a chance.

Check out cleanyourcar.co.uk or autobrite.co.uk

Keep us posted. I'll be watching with interest. Enjoy the process and remember, if there arn't daily updates and hundreds of pics upon delivery, we will take your toy away from you until you behave properly.

Enjoy.

Alex.

Wednesday 11 Jan; Update......  2 days to go til blast off:grin:  ........ but IM NOT HAPPY

Ref ill fitting sill trims;  Workshop manager is not prepared to "cut" sill trims in fear of scratching/damaging paintwork so they have been completely removed now.
Me;" Can I have a refund please"?
Dealer: "Urrr....no".
Me; "Why not? It's not my fault they dont fit correctly. The accessorry catalogue lists just one style of sill trim. It does not say it they are NOT suitable for a GTI. The photo in catalogue shows an example that is fitted perfectly. Therefore I presumed the parts would fit my GTI. If I bought a light bulb and it didn't fit, I'd take it back for refund. Or a jumper that was too small, I'd take it back for refund".....
Dealer: "It will cause a problem with invoice. We will have dificulty refunding".
Me; AY?".....
Dealer; "I will ask my manager if we can 'do something. I'll get back to you".

Is this my "PDI NIGHTMARE"? I know the trims are only £96   :embarassed: but I've paid an awful lot of money for this car and the garage is taking the p**s with this!  It has certainly put the dampers on my initial excitement.
1st ever GTI. awesome!.....and getting better all the time!

Insist on meeting the dealer principle first to ensure he/she aware of how ridiculous they're being and if still no joy; strongly worded letter to VW Customer Service.
The pictures in the accessories brochure don't show any 'peeking out' issues so why should you accept that either a) the product was not suited or b) they were not fitted correctly, and c) why the hell didn't the monkey check the fitting before sticking them down and call you to check OK with 'peeking.'

I can't recall where (which forum) but I've definately seen pics of these fitted to a GTI/GTD and they were inset from the edge of the sill flat edge.

sssh; it's 'only a diesel'; but i love it!

Mention something along the lines of I hope I don't get a customer satisfaction survey call from VW and they will literally sh!t themselves. The result you give them after handover is worth slot more than the £96.00 they have to swallow for really there own mistake.

VW phoned me for a customer survey and I gave the car top marks but the dealer bottom marks.

Then I got my gti mats a tank of fuel and a £60 meal for me and the mrs out of them as way of apology

Don't take their crap mate. If they DON'T fit the car they should have told you this before taking your money. Do not settle for this. You want your money back and compensated for the stress they're causing you.

                                              *****NEWS FLASH***** sill trim update!
Dealer just emailed to offer 1 FULL TANK OF FUEL in lieu of "non-refundable" sill trims. In my area, thats worth around £75. Trims =£96, means I'm out of pocket by just £21
Well, I mean when you're paying £25grand + for a motor, whats £21 between friends?......

Tell them the tank of fuel (make sure it's super unleaded - I insisted on being there when my car was filled so they couldn't use regular) but you also want a set of GTI stitched mats or something. Seriously you WILL get more out of them than this. They're taking the P!ss.

All this crap about paying for a ed.35 key fob is a joke too. No way would they be getting my money for that.

Your shout Truckerash, but I wouldn't be happy with that. They would bug the hell out of me every time I walked to the car and spotted them. My accessory brochure shows them tucked up tight to the door seal, where your picture shows quite a gap at the rear edge. I wouldn't take the line "non refundable" as they have made a balls of fitting them. Just remember it's your expensive car that's being spoiled by their incompetance

They're admitting liability just by taking them off, so stick with it! If i can get a new wheel out of mine for a scratch that probably happened after I collected the car i'm sure you should get refund for some poorly fitting accessories. Have you had the service pack thrown in cos if not i'd be asking for a discounted gesture of good will aswell as a refund!

I wouldn't accept anything other than a full refund.  They are taking the p1ss saying they can't or it will mess the invoice up.

Good luck in what ever you decide to do.
