Most people on here will swear by the Xenons and the 510 sound upgrade. I've got neither so I can't comment.

Then there's the ever contentious DSG/ Manual debate. I went for DSG and don't regret it in the slightest. For me it adds to the refinement of the car and makes driving - even quickly - just that bit more manageable. At the end of the day it's personal preference and from what I've heard even the manual in the GTI's is a pleasure to use. Sorry I can't be more conclusive.

After that it's a toss up really between alloys, Adaptive Chassis Control and Leather. Again I'm sorry but I'm probably not much use regarding these. The Monza shadows look stunning but the whiteworm issues and the speculated ride degradation put me off (I've never tested the car on 18's though so I can't qualify my reservations about the increased diameter). As for the ACC (Chassis Control), I didn't get it and I wish I had. Although if you're coming from a Mk5 GTI then you will be use to the ride so you'll know what to expect. I just think being able to tone down the firmness sometimes would be nice. And lastly is the leather, again it's personal preference but the tartan looks far too good not to get it IMO.

Sorry it's not much advice but most of the options are down to personal preference. There's nothing *necessary* on the GTI which kind of speaks for itself by just how good the standard car is.

VW should make the ACC option standard for all cars with 17” rims and greater. This is a must have feature without which, the ride is too rough and uncomfortable for broken UK roads. ACC truly transforms the car from adequate/good to exceptional.

Steve, I agree with you that 9hp is hardly worth shouting about however in a simple drag race the XDS of the Mk6 will also give the newer car better grip. A little increase in power, a little increase in torque, a slightly wider torque spread, a better diff. It's all small things that add up.

IMHO the mk6 GTI ride is harder than the mk5 GTI.

They only thing i didnt like about the Mk 6 was the loss of "feel" from driving it Comparing it to my Ed30.

Its too refined, although some people would prefer not to hear and feel whats going on under your hands and ears, i prefer this..

To part with 15k at least to get something thats abit more muted and an engine thats not as tunable, a Golf R in 2nd hand, year or 2 year old car is more appealing to me..

But everyone is different in their choices and reasoning..

Its also heavier the MK6, and surposidly the same 0-60 as its predecessor?? why isnt it quicker then if XDS gives better traction?

Still think from that video, alot depends on its driver rather then the person managed to get a better start then the other..Not a fair comparison imo

Its funny i hear this said all the time by current mk5 owners and as an ex mk5 owner and someone who still drives a mk5 GTI every so often i don't feel this myself. After a few thousand miles the engine/exhaust are much louder in the mk6 then when new. Theres as much feeling in the steering (something thats i really need and few modern cars have) but these feelings are only true when the same tyre pressures and tyres are used.
