IMHO the mk6 GTI ride is harder than the mk5 GTI.
The anti-roll bars are thicker on the Mk6 GTI than on the Mk5 GTI, which tightens body control. Consequently, there is a chunkier feel through the steering on turn-in so there will be more feedback, a better sense of the grip on offer and therefore the driver will have more confidence.
The spring rates are also firmer. Therefore, a slightly firmer ride. Some people consider this more 'planted'.
Thus, the Mk6 GTI is 'sharper' to drive than the Mk5 GTI. This was the goal set by Ulrich Sonnak who was the Chassis Engineer for the Mk6 GTI.
You might also be interested to know that the 3 stage ACC (or DCC) dampers on the Mk6 GTI have been re-calibrated to that on lesser models by being firmer in comfort, normal and sport modes.
Its also heavier the MK6, and surposidly the same 0-60 as its predecessor?? why isnt it quicker then if XDS gives better traction?
Still think from that video, alot depends on its driver rather then the person managed to get a better start then the other..Not a fair comparison imo
As far as 0-60 times go, the VW site provided 7.1 for the Mk5 GTI manual which has now dropped to 6.9 for the Mk6 Manual. With DSG the figures were 6.9 for the Mk5 and 6.7 for the Mk6.
I do agree with you however that the video in question looks a little off.
In the real world to the average driver 0.2 seconds is not going to be noticeable.
The manual Mk6 GTI has a 2 mph greater maximum speed than the DSG equipped one. The former car is less hefty.
All I can say is that, IMVHO, the VW Golf Mk6 GTI is the near perfect car that one can get at the present for the price. I simply love it more and more each day. The perfect choice for me
