GTi MK2 E reg leaking water
« on: 11 July 2011, 20:48 »
Can anyone help, I noticed my car needed filling with water very regularly but today when I went to fill it the water disappeared straight away and was empty in about 30 seconds, I put more in and the same happened.  Any ideas what the problem may be.

Did you see from where the water is leaking from. That would be a big help.

Strangely there doesn't seem to be any water coming out, when I fill it it just empties, I've looked underneath to see where is coming out but nothing that I can see

Well if it literally drinks it all and doesn't leak a drip out, its either h/g gone quite badly all of a sudden, meaning you'll have loads of h20 in your oil, and could hydro lock the engine soon as you'd  have 8 odd litres of fluid below pistons.. if its defo in the engine its either oil cooler or h/g gone. Does it run any different to normal? Heaters still get hot? Temp guage moving? Fan coming on? Any other signs of over heating? Low power and poor starting?

The car seems to be running fine, drive around all weekend, perfect, last week the 'low on water' light flickered a few times that why I checked it and found it low, drove a lot at weekend so thougth better check it again to find no water, didn't put too much water in realised quickly it wasn't staying so hope didn;'t do too much more damage.  But yeah to answer your question - all seems to be working fine

It's quite likely

meaning you'll have loads of h20 in your oil,
