Check your heater matrix isn't leaking water into the car then... Why wouldn't water get in the oil with h/g failure? Surely if its gone between water + oil galleries that's a route for it to take?

Head gaskets don't always go between water and oil channels, most failures are between a water channel and a cylinder.

Different failures with different symptoms.

check your oil level on the dipstick as it suddenly gone up........that would point to headgasket

It may do, but that's a sign from a different symptom. He's got coolant loss issues, not mix issues.

Correct, and the reason for failure is the pressure between cylinder and water jacket.

I know a h/g can go in many ways, I never said it only went one way, what I'm saying is if it goes between water + oil why wouldn't it mix or find its way from 1 to the other?

Because it hasn't gone between water and oil.

No, you said 'no it won't', Not 'it isn't'. that's why I asked! I know a h/g goes in a few different combinations, but if the cyl ring bit of cylinder hasn't gone (allowing water to fill the cylinder) which it hasn't because it runs fine, then that's why I presumed it was leaking into the oil via cooler. You've said no it won't as if it can't happen?

No, I said it 'won't' (given his symptons) because you said it 'will' if it's headgasket failure. Clearly back then, you didn't know about the different ways of failures.

You've just showed that lack of knowledge again (no offence), by saying 'but if the cyl ring bit of cylinder hasn't gone (allowing water to fill the cylinder) which it hasn't because it runs fine'

Firstly, it's not running fine. Secondly, if there's a headgasket cause of coolant loss, then the 'cylinder ring' or 'piston ring' will have nothing to do with coolant and oil mixing or any type of coolant loss.

The gasket may have blown between a cylinder and coolant channel, which will let coolant pass into the cylinder. The engine will 'burn off' this coolant instantly, not allowing any to mix with oil. Symptoms are of course coolant loss and usually overheating.

Behave mate, my own headgasket went between cyls 3+4 at christmas, of course I know there's multiple scenarios!! I wasn't questioning your knowledge, I was merely asking why? Your right, I'm not a mechanic and thought you actually had an answer for why it couldn't! Slow down son on trying to mac me off
