If you go down the BMW route, sterr clearof the 1-series - damn fugly car 'specially the 1-coupe

3 coupe - now that can look nice with the M pack and get the 330D or 335D and that'll be like the brown stuff off a shovel.  Friend had the 330D and it was awesome although I think the cabin is a little bit too teutonic for my liking - prefer VW/Audi styling for the interior

Either that or a Clio Cup?

i do quite like the clio's as it happens. good drivers car... only down side is poor cabin (compared to the golf anyway) and lack of space.

I imagine they would show a gti a clean pair of heels  :lipsrsealed:

The only thing Gilly has not buggered on his car is the gearbox. Or has he? After all it IS a box.

The thing with the Clio is (just like Honda R thingies) they have no mid range grunt what so ever. Put your foot down in top gear coming out of a motorway speed restriction zone and you can just watch all the Diesels disappearing into their smoke haze.
So you need to drop it down two gears. Which sounds like no bother at all. Until you've had to do it every time your car gets to a motorway hill. Then it gets a bit wearing.
8000 rpm is okay for mid life crisis motorbikes and track cars, torque is needed for road cars.

As the Yanks say: 'there's no substitute for cubic inches'. Or screamer pipes quite possibly.

Get something with BIG capacity Gilly, something that doesn't need a re-map to make it feel like it should. And then re-map it for good measure!

I saw a Clio cup in silver down the motorway this morning. I'm not a lover of French cars but I would have to admit it did look the buisness.

The cars to small for me though and I need five doors.

that is much closer than I thought tbh. Although that looks like the 197... I would probably look at the 200 cup, which wud more than likely beat the GTI.

Agree with Exo there.... no replacement for displacement

If it wasn't a lease car that was due to go back very soon I'd say something sympathetic.
Ask 'em if they can chuck an R36 engine in there to tie you over for a while......
