The thing with the Clio is (just like Honda R thingies) they have no mid range grunt what so ever. Put your foot down in top gear coming out of a motorway speed restriction zone and you can just watch all the Diesels disappearing into their smoke haze.
So you need to drop it down two gears. Which sounds like no bother at all. Until you've had to do it every time your car gets to a motorway hill. Then it gets a bit wearing.
8000 rpm is okay for mid life crisis motorbikes and track cars, torque is needed for road cars.
As the Yanks say: 'there's no substitute for cubic inches'. Or screamer pipes quite possibly.
Get something with BIG capacity Gilly, something that doesn't need a re-map to make it feel like it should. And then re-map it for good measure!
