mk4 gti 1.8 20v non turbo.....125bhp, fit a turbo and only gain 25hp  they all should be 180 standard.

Marketing reasons, by keeping the 180/225bhp lumps to only a few choices they could charge a premium etc, I have a 180bhp and it feels much stronger over a 150bhp tbh.

Finally got the golf on the road - was getting 33 - 35 mpg on the motor at 70mph.

Anyone have any tips for the driving on the motorway for the golf. My other car (smaller engine  - seat) is very good on mpg at 60 mph.

The golf feels better when doing 70mph than 60mph?

I drive my gti 90 miles a day on mixed roads. i find if i stick to less than 65mph the economy is much improved. the mfa shows 42-44mpg, which isnt accurate, but equates to about 420 miles a tank.  I do service mine regulary though and the temp sensor was replaced not long ago. Worth keeping an eye on tyre pressures too.

Thanks I will try this - its not had a good run in 2 years. Took it on the motorway last night - got just over 30mpg sitting at 70. Took again this morning to work on the motorway and crept upto 35mpg. I will run some redex thoguh it at the week.

Are the temp sender know to cause crappy mpg?

Temp sensor can. also can recommend a throttle body and gentle maf clean. Then it depends on your driving style.
