lol.

Anyone noticed if redex makes any improvements to the MPG. The car has only been running for 24 hours in the past 2 and half years.

Thanks

I agree with Dom, redex etc only helps clean certain parts of the engine. Absolutely no improvement in mpg

Pretty pointless stuff tbh, The Doc & I dyno'd my mk3 with and without octane booster type thing and it made no difference whatsoever!

Also the last rolling road day Her Doc hosted, had a MK6 I think that did a run on the rollling road with normal unleaded, and then re fuelled with high octane unleaded and it improved the horsepower by a massive 1.

It was a Mk5

Standard 95ron fuel:

Shell V-Power:

It is worth noting that this car was standard and that had it been remapped there should be a noticeable difference between standard & premium fuel

when i had my mk5 it was a 50 page debate in that section but i ran mine on 95ron and felt no difference when switching to 99, that wasnt just once either, i allowed the ecu to adjust etc and didnt feel any smoother or anything like that.

well have ran it work a few times on the motorway in the past few days.

Managed 46 mpg on the motorway and when it has been running for a wee bit, sticks around 30+ mpg around town with the odd heavy foot

I've never seen mine read more than 35mpg and usual average is about 29mpg that includes a mixed drive.

my girlfriend has an 8v also (yes, his and hers) and she regularly gets 40+mpg on the clock and usually more than 30mpg average. We've both driven each others cars and get the same results with the car always reading similar mileage. Shes got 125k miles on hers and i've only got 82k on mine. So i'm guessing the engine needs to loosen up a bit

Just done 1100 miles to Cornwall and back, average for the week with 2 runs of 380 miles at 70-80 non-stop and the rest stuck in A30 holiday traffic and cruising round Cornish country lanes with a few spells of driving like a k**bhead was 36.6, and on the motorway bits 40.4. In an old 2.0 petrol with 147k I think that's pretty decent really, bet I won't get anywhere near that when I get my VR6
