8v gti's mpg
« on: 01 July 2011, 14:19 »
Hi
Im new on here and Im thinking of getting an 8v gti as I need something more economical than my current car but I dont want to spend much and I dont really want a diesel as modern ones are to expensive and not very reliable so I was wondering what mpg you get out of your 8v gti's?
Also is there much difference in the mpg of the 16v's?
Thanks

my 16v is doing 32mpg, not driven that hard at the moment though.

If your worried too much, get a diesel! My A4 is doing around the 50 mark! :-)

I would say thats pretty average to get higher figures round town you really have to drive slow.

i use mine to drive 12 miles to work, and 12 miles back every day, i see 38mpg out of it, this includes dual carriage way, and windy road driving, not a lot of stop start though.

If I can get 38 mpg I would be happy.
Im getting married and buying a house and need to sell my e36 m3 and would like something reasonalble sporty but also something which will do at least 10 mpg more that what im getting now so an 8v gti looks the best bet.
Do they have a trip computer so you can see what you getting mpg wise without having to wait till you fill up?

8v's are not that good on fuel, mine was 23 to 31, I am finding the vRS a lot better on fuel.

my 8v was not very good TBH.. was in the 20's around town and on the motorway it was in 30's, could hit late 30s if i drove like a granny

if your after 38 round town then a GTI is not for you

the 16v car i had was about the same as the 8v if not a tad better

my S3 engine is better than them both !!  work that one out LOL :undecided:

P.S they have a computer that tells you the MPG, doubt its 100% accurate tho but gives an idea
