Thanks for all your replys. Im little bit confused as what to mpg to expect from an 8v but as i will be driving 13 miles each way to work and 10 of those will be dual carriage way im hope to at least get 35 mpg if i stick to near 70mph. I just dont want to sell my m3 and get something that only does 5mpg more but have almost a third less power lol. My other option i was think of is a mg zs or zr diesel as they are good on fuel but im not sure i want one of those or not but the L series diesel is bullit proof but i bit old hat.

You will see a saving, I would also suggest a mk4 1.8t is worth looking.

I'm getting on average 30 mpg  hopefully to be sorted with the timing tomorrow

I would say thats pretty average to get higher figures round town you really have to drive slow.

I commute bout 22 mile round trip, was getting 26 - 28 before service, got 29 - 30 after service, and now timing is spot on got 31.7 this morning

Are the 1.8 20v turbo engine's normally good on fuel? Better than the non turbo and 8v's? If so that could be a good idea.

I personally dont see point in owning a GTI or anything performance related if you are gonna worry about fuel and MPG so much
