280mm brake conversion - confussed!
« on: 12 May 2011, 13:36 »
Hi,

I know there's heaps of stuff in the search on this but after sifting through tones of it I couldn't quite get the answers I needed...

Will a 280mm Corrado VR6 caliper and carrier, pads and disc set up fit my big bumper 16v Golf GTI?

I know the discs are 5x100 so they wont fit, so I'll have to get hold of some 280mm 4x100 G60 discs

Also, will it fit under my BBS RA's?

Thanks!

Nope I believe the offset of the discs is all wrong.

You will need 15" wheels

Oh poo. So the 280mm VR6 Corrado calipers and carriers are different to the pre-96 Mk3 Golf VR6 calipers??

My BBS RA's are 15" - so they should be ok with a 280mm set up?

Thanks

With vr6 callipers they are easier to get hold of and basiclly the same as the g60

Will I need to drill new holes in the Corrado 5x100 discs to make them fit my 4x100 hubs?

So it sounds like everything from the Corrado VR6 will fit then (bar me having to drill new holes in the discs)

Great thanks!

not true. If you want to keep your RA's you'll have to use golf 16v callipers with 280 carriers and modify the slide pins
and use the 16v pads which are thinner

i've got the hybrid set up on mine - carriers came from a mk3 golf.

need to remove 3mm from slides - acess to a  lathe is very helpful

Is it the 288mm set up that need grinding back then?

Still confused! :)

I'm hoping it'll all just fit without needing any mods! (Apart from 4x100 holes).

Thanks
