Retro Fit Folding Mirrors?
« on: 07 April 2011, 09:49 »
Anyone retro fitted folding mirrors to their MK6 GTI?  If so, what is involved and do you have the part numbers for the conversion?  Ta.

I looked into this - you need a new electric mirrors and wiring looms to go to the door control module and possibly a door control module depending on the version fitted to your car

I wanted the dipping mirror more then the folding TBH - I really miss that feature

Fully electric memory seats would be nice too.....

Thinking about it!  I've seen a nice Golf R, but I need folding mirrors which it doesn't have.

Fair play.
You'd think that a £30k car would have those as standard really wouldn't you.
You need a £20-22k Cupra R to get folding mirrors as standard! Mind you the Haldex would cost a fair bit more to retro fit!!

A VW with good standard logical equipment  Think yourself lucky they have heated mirrors. A new Audi i was looking at last weekend has heated mirrors as an option included with folding mirrors. In this day and age no heated mirrors standard!!

I would expect it would need the door control module too as well as the mirror and harness.
So it would be expensive.
Could you not just get away with folding them manually? At least then you know they will actually fold in and out and not get stuck

Did you end up getting the A1? What's it like? Lot of dosh for a small car.

Good point there!

MK6 ones do seem to fold properly though, unlike MK5 mirrors that only move a couple of inches.

The MK5 ones were a poor excuse for folding mirrors.  The MK6 are much better - but still nowhere near as good as BMW / Merc ones.

I seem to recall someone mentioning about £500+ for retrofitting folding mirrors.

Ive read loads of cases of the mk6 ones not folding out, the same as the mk5 ones. It seems as common as the mk5s. probably the same software

I don't think it is a lot of dosh, compared to fiesta, polo, Ibiza, Mito, and other small cars excluding hyundai/kia with similar specs its no more expensive but the dash materials are a step up.
