I ordered end of October , checked with dealer few weeks back and was on course for build wk11, had this email from dealer advising:

Due to factory system shut down over the Christmas period we thought we let you know the progress of your vehicle before we break up.
Your vehicle is currently factory order stage scheduled build week 17 2011.
 
The system will be back up and running in the New Year, feel free to call us then for a further updates

not in a mad rush to have it but would like it by the summer time! ....expecting June then to be actually sat in it!!

Feck that for a game of soldiers.... 'Ordered october hopefully expect to get the car in June'..... come on vw sort it out that's pathetic (Gofl's are hardly handbuilt).....

may a 61 Plate is not that unrealistic !!

but if I was in hurry or impatient then would have walk away.. must be costing VW and dealers in new sales

Taff_09 - Did you order a car with a mountain of extras? Wonder if adding loads of options onto the car determines when it gets built?

yep fair few extras, depending on what is in the mix may affect build wk, maybe.... i'd expect that ur more likely to get 61 plate if only just ordered! u never know though

Whats the crack with dealers and ordering cars anyway, do different dealers have different allocations for cars, meaning some dealers will be able to get a car quicker than others? Any ideas anyone?

evo would prob know this,

maybe some dealers have cars in the mix already and can then adjust as necessary, but can;t see how dealers can get priority build over others, they are probably selling their GTI allocations well in advance anyway

order GTI then +1 month to get a build week then +6 months to get built, then +? to deliver and collect

lead time is unreal

Yeah they get so many allocations per month so if they have already sold their allocation that month you will have to wait until the following one before it can be put through.

I could be wrong but I'm sure some dealers are as low as 3 GTI's (or less) a month.

This thread might give you an idea of whether adding other extras adds to the increased build time.

Some dealers have already sold their allocation for the next few months, they may not always tell you....
Depends on the size of the dealer, I think they are allocated 1 or 2 a month but this may have changed.

Yeah i thought thats how it worked, crazy some people have waited more or less 10 months for there cars to come 

My cousin works in the VW group for Bentley and he said to meet demand there getting UK spec cars built in South Africa and shipped over Not sure if theres any truth in this or not but if i went to see my car being built it may well be a holiday to S.A
