Newbie here Q's answered (update)
« on: 16 December 2010, 16:48 »
Hi all i thought i'd take the opportunity to introduce myself and let you know my plans,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice and guidance on the purchase of a new mk6 GTI

I have had my current car a renaultsport clio 200 for the past year from new and it's driven me insane, the worst decision i have ever made on buying a car.... unbearably hard, rubbish build quality, rubbish customer service the list goes on.

I have come to my senses and will be ordering the following hopefully this weekend if a suitable deal can be had -

Black
DSG trans
Monza alloys
standard cloth seats (not so sure on vw's leather)
RCD 510 stereo

Can't afford much else  :undecided: I live in the north east has anyone got any recommendations on dealers?

Thanks Will.

I'm not expecting any customer service at stealers to be any good but Renault  you have no idea.

No that's unfair - there's the odd decent dealer. Just don't think you're buying into a "quality" brand by buying a VW 'cos you're not. The Golf is a mass produced car like any other - it's just very well marketed and has good showroom appeal.
And VW don't have a great reputation for after sales care as a brand either - just read the many threads on various forums on this and you'll get my drift.
Fantastic car though when it's working properly.

The quality of materials and how its all screwed together is miles ahead of my renault, maybe you've just been spoilt

The one thing that does annoy me though is VW producing less cars per month than is required, i.e if 150 cars are required for jan they'll only produce 130 of a particular model. When they need a few and people start nagging they send them over from South Africa.

Long long waiting times.

Ever thought about becoming a salesman andy? for the most part i agree with what your saying but i personally think VW is a quality brand, yes they are mass produced but so are Audi's and BMW's and i would class them as quality too, it's true that if you search on the forums that you'll find a lot of people are unhappy but aren't they the best places to have a rant?? I have personally had no major issues with my car apart from the odd rattle etc and my dealer has been exeptionally good so perhaps i'm one of the lucky ones!?
If you fancy a ride out my dealer was Hadwins in Grange-over-sands and i travelled 150 miles for it cos he offered me £1000 more for my trade in without even seeing the car! All the best with the purchase and welcome.

Where in the North East?

DES WINKS in Scarborough are pretty good, Andy Veitch is the salesman I dealt with and he was pretty much on the ball.

Gizzy
Deep Black Pearl Mk7 GT TDI 150.

Depends on your expectations. If you expect it to be perfect in all departments you will be disappointed.
If you are a little more realistic and expect the odd quirk/imperfection then great.

My experience so far, brilliant car. Excellent dealer.

Cloth seats are great, RCD 510 great, are you sure about the Automatic??
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
