Dino, these fellows with ED30's that they are keen to sell will always try to rubbish the real GTI.
The fact is the standard car is the best.  Less lag, better looking, less traction control, no silly red cotton.  If I had liked the anniversary model I would have bought it, but I, like most others, went for the class of the GTI.

Had a ''standard'' mk5 GTI for 18 months & it went last week for an 08 ED30,best thing i could have done. Not done a great deal of miles due to the crap weather & work etc BUT i love it,if you find a good one get it.
All the best for the new year all.

Quote from: for my reference later only
Too nuch lag
ragged to death
so nightmare buying used
other than that there ok
.......
( but the TFSI engine is bullit proof )!!! Rubbish
i think your very mislead by your statement
(no more reliable, actually worse than some other makes of the run of the mill perfomance hatch engines)
for example:
camshaft and cam follower issues
water pump impellers falling off
inlet valve problems
tumble valve issues
dv valve problems
Failed belt idler pulleys
i could go on,  but it appears you have been suckered by the  typical VW advertising i am afaid
........
VW tech good guess
the amount of rough Ed 30,s we see makes us laugh, they tend to all be bought by the same type of folk, u know the ones that used to buy Subaru,s a year or two ago,
that said I am not knocking them, there are better and worse cars around but very few proper clean ED30,s
just as I say don't believe the hype thou
.......
Not true i think, you would find more them in non franchised network as you cant afford the labor rates.
You want to pay more money for a ED 30 which is after all a  de-tuned Audi S3 without 4wd, shonky interior build, and a few extra badges then fine.
My Missus runs a Mk5 GTI so you cant say i'm a hater, sorry.
That said i wouldnt buy one if i didnt work on them.
Just dont make them out to be something there clearly not
(No better or worse than any other hot hatch on sale)
......
let me point this out it's the same car nothing special off the same prodution line, u just got lucky 3rd time of trying l.o.l

You are believing the hype chap ( advertiser's dream) !
Loving the black wheels very nice!

Dino2:
This is why i always came to forums. Not the bickering, not the pat on the backs, not the modding, not the blinkered owners but people who work on the cars, see them regular, who know the faults and let everyone know. This imo is what forums should be about, and what they use to be about, not all the other stuff, i wish more people would do it.

Off topic, but unlike some i would like to know these type of things, so i know what to maybe look out for in the future. If you know of common faults and issues on the mk6 GTI please feel free to PM me and let me know. Either now or in the future when more come to light.
Thank you
Geoff.

 I thought your ed30 had the belt idler problem, which made you think the squeek on your GTD was the same thing? or is that what the  ment. confused
I do find it funny when magazines run a car for 6 month as a long term test or people coment i have had no problems in 10K or short time as that imho is not a test and a true indication but thats just my view.
What i also find funny about magazine reviews etc is how they say how good a new car is then in there used buyers section when they feature it how this wonderful car now has lots of 'watch out for' bits. But if they do a used car of the year they suddenly forget about the watch out for bits.
There imo is nothing like getting a DST/MDST view of a car.

There are over 50 ed30s for sale on Autotrader right now, starting at £10,000ish.
I think the first time they are overtaken by a Ford RS they go up for sale.
