I bought a new red dsg ED30 in may 2008 i have only 15,000 miles on it. i have never raked it to death i have never even used the launch control it has been a fantastic car no trouble with it at all

Great choice of car Percy, although I'm a tad biased

Here's what Hurdy said about his Ed30's suspension..."Suspension. As standard the ED30 suspension can be a little crashy on uneven roads. This is one area that I thought the standard GTI seemed better in. It maybe subjective as everyone tells me that the suspension is exactly the same, but I'm still even now not 100% that they REALLY are!"

The same was said by Autocar on their long term test, sorry.

Whilst I try to maintain a neutral point of view, stating that I have not owned both cars so am not liable to comment, I see you have no such qualms Egbutt.  Do I detect an ever so slightly envious tone as you 'just' have a standard GTI?

Rather than trying to put down the Ed30 all the time surely we should be agreeing that both the GTI and the Ed30 are great cars.

Before deciding on the Ed30 I test drove both the standard GTI and R32 (too heavy nose and the weight penalty of the 4-wheel drive meant that if anything it was slower than the Ed30 - probably start another debate here!!)  but preferred the Ed30 due to its exclusivity and added performance.

Whilst I'm on my high chair, I'm not even going to comment about the person who claimed all Ed30s are driven by ex-Scooby drivers and are thrashed to within an inch of their life.  To say I take offense to that is somewhat of an understatement.........

I like to inform any potential owners of GTI's that the standard model is the best, so no need to shell out on the ugly sister.

The coloured-in bumpers give the Ed30 a big fat rear, like a Harlepool lass on a Friday night.
