16v MK2 GTI cold start help required
« on: 22 April 2010, 21:44 »
Hi all

The Golf will start but not tickover from cold, i need to rev it at 1500 RPM till it warms thru a little then it's runs like a dream, although does seem to idle at around 1300 RPM when upto to temp, is that normal or too high.

Any help or advice most welcome.

Thanks

Get a new ISV fitted or atleast try cleaning up your current one.

Same, mine stalled this morning, had to rev it a bit to make it not stall. Did the ISV work? not that i know what it is!

Just took the screw out, i wiped off some dirt from it ( black oily). should it be dirtier than this to cause stalling when cold?

Remember how many turns it takes to get it out as you'll have probs if you don't put it back in right, would also recommend ISV cleaned with carb cleaner, dry it then refit. ISV is the cylindrical thing on the right hand side of the inlet manifold. Has an electrical connection and two pipes connected to it.

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.
