Non metallic paint
« on: 21 March 2010, 20:51 »
In this weeks Auto Express mag there is an indepth report on what it's like to live with the GTD.

The report is very much in favour of the GTD but what is not so good is:

"the red paint of our test car adds to its racy looks - but it comes at a cost.  Yes, you save £430 by opting for a solid shade, but metallic finishes have a strong lacquer that makes them very hard wearing.  And the soft paintwork on our Golf is already stone chipped in places".

Their car has done 2496 miles.

That is why I had mine Toughsealed. Yet to see it!
The dealer said it made the Tornado Red colour look really fantastic with greater depth with an amazing shine and finish. They were most impressed.
Am I worried?

Get a scratch on your metallic paint and then try to fix it. Could be fun!

Sorry to hear this.
Happens to most cars.
Possibly worse for flat paint finishes.
My Type R GT has only 2  tiny stone chips in 2 years and it is not Toughsealed.
Suggest you repaint your bonnet (?) and Toughseal your car!
