VW Dealers are another breed!
« on: 14 March 2010, 19:18 »
Just received this from my dealer. It beggars belief!
(Stuart is the person who is going to Toughseal my car).

'Stuart unfortunately does not have public liability insurance - therefore we are unable to let him carry out any work on site.  Also, he requires an undercover area for 4 - 5 hours to complete the work - we do not have anywhere on site undercover for Stuart to work'.

I have asked them to drive the car to Stuart who has 5000 sq ft 'undercover' and is insured to do the work there. The dealership had suggested this initially which at the time I felt was a bit odd. I wonder what other hiccups are going to occur.

Therefore, when I take delivery of my 'new' car, it would have done at least 200+ miles. This is the sort of mileage I do in 2 weeks.

Don't you love dealers?

It happens everywere now, you need public liability insurance for stuff like this. Its the claim culture imported from the USA we now live in. People are scared of been caught liable. I can for once see there side.

Perhaps I can call my Insurance company, insure the car on and from the day Stuart has to do the work. I don't know whether this would work. I'll check tomorrow. But anyway, the dealer does not have a 'covered area' which I find a bit odd.

They probably don't have a clean enough covered area they are not using for 4-5 hours. Its a busy time of year. They are also maybe worried that if you find something wrong with it, Stuart then turns round and says it was conditions he had to work in, which makes them liable etc.  If he normally does this off side i would have though he would have some public liability insurance
(why the hell am i sticking up for dealers FFS! )

They, at present, have one valid reason and one possible reason.
Just wait and see: they will come out with another one like, 'All our drivers are down with swine 'flu and have died, so your car cannot be driven 15 miles down the road to Stuart'!!

Is there a reason why you can not collect the car then just drive it straight down to Stuart?  :undecided:

I have literally no time. Am too busy to be busy!
Am in Denmark from Tuesday 16 March, then off on another conference, then off for 3-4 days (my first holiday in 9 months), then back to hell at work (though I really love it). Time is money and it is more economical for me to pay someone than do it myself!
As my car is coming from Telford, it is more convenient for me to have the work done for me rather me doing it all myself! Otherwise, I will only be able to take delivery mid April and that would be quite distressing! All this because of the delay from BW2 to BW8.
Curses!
Thank you all.

That's fair enough, how much does it cost to have somone apply it and what do you do out of interest?
I'm looking forward to 'sealing' mine myself when I finally get; I see it as part of getting to know the new car if you know what I mean. roll on April....
