Thnx, Rolfe  -  I ordered the car almost three months ago and have only made one change (manual to DSG)  -  since putting in the order, I've only posted messages in response to other people's postings  -  so I'm having a bit of a wobble  -  that sad little man wants to get some perspective and context  -  it's a flippin' forum, not a war zone!

James:
I think you are fabulous.
You have every right to think aloud on this forum. That is what it is here for.
My suggestion: go for the 5 door with or without DSG, choose red, white or black (all non-metallic colours), and tweek your options very carefully.
I am here for you anytime/all the time!

Thnx, am1w!!! much appreciated!!!
I might change to the 5 dr  -  the perhaps cooler look of the 3 dr wont count for much when I'm having to get out everytime to let the kids out  -  I'm just not sure about the airbags  -  some say good for kids, some say not....
I might go for them. I'm happy with my carbon grey and the options. Thanks, again

James, my dear,
Can you now, at last, include in your profile the car you are FINALLY going to order, PLEASE.
This will help YOU psychologically and ME emotionally.
I am about to change MY mind about the colour of MY car!
Fortunately/unfortunately, it is too late for me as my car is locked down for production, they say!
You are too infectious!!

am1w  -  tell me you're female  -  the 'my dear' worries me a bit...unless it's a Michael Winner 'calm down, dear' 'dear'  -  when I get a sec, I'll let you know the spec  -  haven't got the file to hand and can't remember off the top of my head  -  your delivery date is locked down and you ordered it on 16 Dec  -  unbelievable!

'James my dear' is a term of endearment! :embarassed:
I am definitely NOT female. Otherwise I would be getting a 3 door GTi or a BMW 320d!

I honestly think you should wobble in the direction of the 5-door. The sheer convenience factor for someone with a family like yours should make it a no-brainer.  I think you're being over-cautious about the safety aspect, and indeed you may well be outright wrong.  I don't think VW put in rear airbags to make the rear seat more dangerous for children, and someone already mentioned additional strengthening in the 5-door.

I've always had 3-door cars up till now, and prefer then for myself alone, but I had my arm twisted to get a 5-door and I have to say that when you're carrying more than one passenger it's an enormous advantage.  As you have children and will be using the rear seats constantly, I think there's no contest.

Rolfe.
