I think James should get a 5 door GTi especially as he has young children.
I would go, if I was him, for a BMW 320d saloon instead of a 3 door VW Golf GTi.
Audis are quite nice, so are Skodas now, Fords ,,, mmmm a good bargain maybe, Vauxhalls look good these days...

Actually James I think you may be a Hyundai man. 5 year warranty and excellent trade in!
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

James, it must be so much fun trying to decide what to have for dinner in your house!!!!
Even if you went for another car you would still have at least a months wait, although it does seem a lot of money over a very long time for the gti! perhaps some saving first????? :nerd:
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

Am I the only one confused here?

If you research a car, drive the oppsition, narrow it down...then finally decide which one you want (never mind the epic struggle to decide which options you want, you think you want, other people want you to have...and the tricky choice of the correct colour etc!) then surely you want THAT cat and will wait for it?

It may be 2 months...6 months...or in the case of certain GTIs...8 months.
But once you know you want it, surely you wait?

I just don't get the whole changing mind thing.
If YOU want it, wait for it.
If YOU want a BM, get one.
Does it really matter what anyone else thinks, or how much cheaper it will be, blah, blah, blah...

Or do people seriously just order a 20 something thousand pound car having given it no thought?
Then change their mind as ofter as they change their socks.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Hi again James:
Had to say more on this thread.
I am concerned for you.
Why don't you get a 5 door GTi especially as you have young children?
So much more practical.
They will feel so claustrophobic and hemmed-in in a 3 door Golf!
And, you are worried about the rear curtain airbags causing damage to the little ones?
Are you pre-empting an accident?
I thought you were getting a 5 door GTi.
A thoughtful  father would go for a BMW 320d saloon instead of a 3 door VW Golf GTi!
Woops! He is going to change his mind again!
Just teasing you!

James put those car mags away and stop reading them. Make a decision and stick with it.

320D is a good car buy soooooooooooooooooooooooo booooooooooooooooring.

You will love your GTi when it comes and have a relationship with it. You cannot do that with a repmobile.

I managed 45mpg on a 300 mile round trip last week and that was without trying.

Have you considered a Merc C250 Sport ! Just kidding.

It will be worth the wait.
Mk6 GTi - returned to leasing company after 3 great years and replaced with :

Mk5 GTi - Edition 30 - Revo 1 and some tweaks - 310 bhp. Its a better car than the Mk6  - Now sold and replaced with :

Mk6 R - Rising Blue 5 Door. Won't be standard 270bhp for long

Family Car : Mercedes ML420 with 360 bhp
Looking at Porsche Macan as replacement

Gti back in favour, p3asa  -  but now thinking of changing from 3 to 5 dr!!!!!!!!!!! I did prefer the look of the 3 door (and have a 4x4 for family travelling) but now think the 5 dr looks more like the finished article (no disrespect to 3 dr owners!)  -  but as was worried that side rear air bags could be harmful to the kids, I went for 3 dr thinking tougher body shell  -  but the kids will go in the Golf so the 3 dr will be a p in the a very quickly...
