changing order....maybe...
« on: 15 February 2010, 11:54 »
this wont endear me to you guys but very tempted to cancel Gti order to get BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics  -  half the benefit-in-kind tax, 'quoted' almost 70mpg on combined cycle, £35pa road tax but still 8.2 secs  0-62.5  -  and reviews say that it's a great drive....and the monthlies are less on a 36 month finance lease than I'd pay monthly on a 60 month finance lease for the Golf (Gti 3/59 £440 whereas BMW is 3/35 £375 with options like leather).
All this waiting time is allowing me too much thinking time....

You dont buy a GTI because you want to save petrol and have nice cheap road tax. You buy a GTI to have fun, sounds like the BMW diesel deep down is the option for you.

Now Im not saying the BMW is boring or not fun, but rather have a 2.0T petrol over a 2.0 diesel, everyone to their own and at all that. Wont you lose your deposit money?

I haven't paid a deposit  -  the finance company through which I'm going to finance the car (finance lease) has the agreement with the delaership and I can cancel the agreement with the finance company without incurring a financial penalty  -  if it was March 1 now and the Gti came though today, I'd be very happy, I'm sure, but all this waiting and thinking time is pushing me into the sensible zone....I don't know...thnx...

lol - i'd expect nothing less from you James!

seriously though - i understand where you're at.  the ridiculous waiting times are enough to put anyone off.  however you mention 1 Mar... that is only 2 weeks away.... if that is you eta then it would be ridiculous to change now.

re: tax and economy - can't argue there, but as has already been pointed out, the GTI and the 320d are very very different cars.  that said, i did half consider an M sport 320d coupe which does look pretty tasty.  the 4 dr saloon is very very plain though and they are more common than a mondeo.

depends what you want at the end of the day... though as has been proved many times before, that isn't that clear either!!
Mk6 Golf GTI 5dr, DBP, Monza Shadow, Xenons, ACC, RCD510, Park Assist, Camera, Lux pack.... and now bluetooth.... and now DSG!

agreed 100%, Keelaw  -  the Effic. Dynamics 320d will look pretty ordinary but can't get M Sport trim in that model  -  I guess worth dropping a few mpg to get the non-Effic. Dynamics and getting the M Sport. Yup, the 320d is everywhere and there'll be loads of the Eff. Dynamics model around soon but it's because it's a great car to drive and cheap to own  -  that said, I've always been 'off' BMW (no disrespect to BM drivers intended)  -  delivery date isn't 1 March  -  I was just saying that if it was '10' plate time now and the car was ready, I'd happily take it  -  dealer is telling me BW 9/10 so, if that gets firmed up, delivery first week April?? I'll probably stick with the order and, if I do, I'll love it  -  just thinking while I still can...

Don't do it James!
This model of BMW 3 Series will be an old model next year when the new and much prettier one is released.
Remember, there is no price on beauty!
The present BMW 3 Series is so common and pig ugly!

you're probably right, Alan  -  if I opt for the 320D, I'll be thinking 'great, I'm saving money...' but if I go for the Gti, I'll be saying to myself, 'I love this....!!!!'

And just imagine how you would feel when you get to a set of lights and a shiny new MK6 GTI pulls up next to you . . . . .
