Since its a toothed belt it would have to be really loose to squeal, but then again you havent said what the noise is like

I get a squeeky pulley belt sometimes when starting from cold, soon goes once the engine is warm. I reckon one of  your pulley belts needs tightening up. Try feeling the tension of your pulley belts by pushing and pulling on them

aux belt, alternater bearings.

i have a sort of noise, wouldnt say it was a squeek but not too disimilar. its coming from the aux belt area, the belt is fine though so not worried. my 1.4 did it also, and most mk3s i have walked past have had the noise! i just ignore it.

Yes the water pump too, if you over tighten the belt it f**ks the bearings.

to replace the circlip pliers you can get a fork, and bend out both the outer "spikes" whatever you call them lol.

Cambelt should twist 90 degrees at the longer end (between cam pulley and intermedate pulley)

He helped me out with mine, used a small allen key, into one of the holes and pushed it down against the nut, then did the nut  up with a spanner then torqued it up.

As Khare said, the cambelt should twist 90 degree's on the longer end.
