amplifying advice.

ok, i have and alpine IDA-X300 head unit, alpine Type S components like these ( http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/alpine-sps171a-17cm-components-speaker-p-3526.html )
i will be buying a new sub soon and have a range of amplifiers.
i have an alpine mrv-f300s 4ch, (freeby )
an alpine Mrv-t802-dx class D 2ch,
a boss sound 1000w 4ch black thing (the ones after the purple chocolate bar ones) dont laugh it its the best working amp i have,
and a longmill pharoah 004 6ch amp (its crap so lets not bother with that one, free to collector)

right, so i want to power a 12" sub and my components, the 2 ch alpine seems to get upset when running subs, and the alpine 4ch seems to get upset when working with other amps.

untill recently i have had the alpine 2ch running the components (because it was happy doing so) and the 4ch boss sound running the subs.. it sounded not too bad imo..

since i got rid of the subs ready for a single 10 or 12 i have taken the alpine 2 ch away and run the comps off the boss 4ch using channel 3 + 4 and in all fairness its sounds quite good and i have another 2 channels to bridge and run a sub off. gains are all the way down on the amp as there is some sort of distortion if i crank it up so was wondering if it was the amp clipping or the speakers distorting.
so left me wondering, should i run the comps of the boss 4ch in bridged mode to run the comps (using ch 1+2 and ch 3+4) and run the sub off the alpine 2ch if it feels up to it?...
im trying to get the best crystal clear sound i can get with what i got, i am going to spend what i can afford on the sub as the ones i have are cacky sh!te..
any advice?...

Ummm, I think, reading the above, you only have the boss 4 ch!

So you need to find out if its bridgable. Run the types s's off 1 & 2, then bridge 3&4 to give increased output to your sub.

You'll need to check what impedance your sub is as bridging 2 ch of the amp will probably drop the impedance from 4 ohms to 2 ohms so you'd need a single DVC4 or DVC1 sub or SVC2.

Give us a minute & i'll have a quick look for them on google.

The 300s is 30wrms x4 @ 4ohm, 80wrms x2 @4ohm

The boss if its the cw650 is 100wrms x4 @4ohm.

The boss is bridgable & will probably put out 200wrms but not sure of impedance.

When you say the amps get freaked out, don't like other subs. What do you mean?

What sub are you running?

What thickness of power cable are you running?

Need more info mate.

Just seen your post on TA mate.

coming back to the amps freaking out, i think it was due to one of the previous subs voice coils being fried which sent the amps into protection mode, i will have to check them out again when i get the new sub and see how they behave. the boss amp seems to have more power than the alpine amps but the alpines seem so have a much better SQ when behaving correctly.
i will see whats what when i get my new sub, if they behave well i will run the sub off the class D in bridged mode and the comps of the alpine 4ch (aslo in bridged mode but gains turned lower).
if they dont behave well, i will use the boss amp as you descrbed yourself untill i can afford a decent amp..
thanks, jamie.

the boss amp will more than likely only be happy running 4 ohm bridged giving roughly 200 rms
so you will need a single 4 ohm coil sub

its a single voice coil i am after to be honest.  not really up on dual voice coil stuff nor do i have the amplifier to run one probably..
would rather stick to what i know and can afford at the moment..lol.

and in all fairness even though boss sound are given a bad name in the past, this amp isnt too bad at all and i have used them before and been happy. the boss speakers are pants though..

Sounds like plan mate.

So what wiring you got.

2 amps will double the strain so for them 2 alpines I'd say 4awg min mate.

It is possible for dodgy cabling to screw around with amps.

not sure of the thickness of the power cable its just one i pulled out of my parts bin that i had bought in the past and never used, i know it has a 60A fuse as standard though...

The best solution?
Give me £100, I give you a JL twin voice coil 10" sub in matched JL carpeted box with a V12 Alpine amp to power it.
Never will you hear such a powerful combo for so little money!
