One £70 cable later!

To be continued...

....Right, had a sh!tty day at work as half the staff buggered off early and left the remaining peeps to look after the shop on our own. which was carnage.

Got home and started to remove the old cable. Unfortunally Haynes don't make a "mk2 golf with 02A box and 20vT engine" manual yet, so I had to do the remove bolts, remember where they came from and rebuild process which actually worked quite well this time.

Started off removing the heatshield to gain access to the cables and the bottom of the shifter. Not too hard. I then disconnected the gearbox end of the broken cable. I had to loosen the exhaust and push it out the way to get the whole shifter mech out of the car leaving a hugh hole in where it use to be and a view of the tarmac from inside the car! Once that was done I dismantantaled the shifter so I could unhook the broken cable and reattach the new one. Simple enough, just very greasey and messy. Once that was done it was bascially a backwards process from before. I bolted it all back together, replaced the boost pipe and intake that I removed to access the cable on the gearbox and went to have a feel of the movement from inside the car.

It's mega smooth now. That cable must have been well past it. It's almost like a new car! I adjusted it slight when I re-attached the cable to the gearbox end. that might have done some good. I'll see what it's like when I drive it futher as I only took it round the block so far. I still need to clamp the exhaust back together and replace the heatsheild as I decided that was enough for 1 night and went out on the piss.

unfortunally I think I had a bit too much to drink and I'm still way over the limit for legal driving to get the car down to work so I'll have to walk. :D

I took a pic of the shifter on the floor, but can't access my web server so I'll add that later.

Changed the oil and filter and did the fuel filter at the same time. Messy job but had to be done.

Also swapped the twin 15" subs for meaty MTX 8500 twin 10"ers :D

Wow, it's almost been a month since I last posted something.

not a lot has been happening. I've bought a 6 cd changer for the boot which free's up the front slot loading and easy access to the 6 best cds about now. Not a bad buy for £40.

I knew I needed a new air filter from the moment I had the 20vT installed, so 11 months later I finally buy one :D. After seeing the HUUUUUUGE one on Claire/Gary's mk1 I wanted one of those. They're made by a company called Quikshift. Cost is about £65 and you need a small peice of Samco to fit them onto the existing plastic MAF. All the bits I need arrived yesterday and today so I shall be out there at lunchtime fitting it and taking pics :D

The shopping list now looks like this...
Quikshift Air filter
Full exhaust system
Forge dump valve
Newspeed lightened pulleys
Newspeed turbo intake pipe
Samco hoses
N75 boost control valve
Solid front engine mounts. VR6 rear engine mounts.
Jabbasport remap

Should be seeing be best part of 240bhp then

Had a week off work, but haven't done much to the car. With the help of my dad I change the GTi rear glass for one I rescued off a CL so I wouldn't have the holes left after I'd removed my spoiler. That's cleaned the look off the back end up a bit. Asked for a quote off my bodyshop to get all the rust removed and bits sorted. Still waiting to hear back off them.

Found a N75 boost control valve on ebay that was listed as a dump valve. Knowing what it actually was I bid my £5 and won. VAG want £55 for a new one and this one was still boxed so I got it today. Awesome. :D

The shopping list is having things ticked off all the time :)

Fitted a boot pop at work in half hour using a door motor. it's running off the rear wiper stalk which means unless u disable it it keeps opening the boot every 10 seconds as if it's working the wiper lol. I'll sort that out soon!

also the mileage ticked onto the 183k mark :D

*edit* Replaced the relay for the timed rear wiper with a simple male-male wire which stops the reopening boot :D

Popped round to DUBusiness in Taffs Well to see Gareth this morning and install one of my uprated headlight loom onto Gareth's Rallye. Simple enough to do just a bit of soldering to do and it works a treat! I had no idea the Rallye's lights were so bad!

I secured my header tank nicely in the engine bay with the new bracket I got from VW the other week welding on a couple of bolts to the susspension turret for a proper fit :)

Just built up 13 looms to take to e38 show and sell.

Removed my wheels to totally clean them up for the show next weekend and give the calipers a fresh lick of paint and ended up breaking my F'ing 17mm socket

Just bought a Bailey DV30 dump valve on eBay as recommended by Jabbasport for my engine. Was £104 from them, but there's a guy on eBay selling them for £85 brand new with free P&P so I had one off there. Should stop my surging at 6000rpm and bling up the bay a bit.

New full exhaust system is being fitted by Prospeed in Cardiff on the 19th. That'll unlock a bit more BHP before it's off for the all important remap at Jabba. Looking forward to a proper 230bhp afterwards. The exhaust system is 2.5" all the way through with a single circle pipe out the back. haven't decided on the size yet.

Bailey dump valve arrived quickly and in brand new condition. Fitting took all of 2 minutes. Now instead of my boost gauge reading -8 on tickover it's -30. and when you let off the gas instead of it jumping down in steps it's a lot smoother. also before I had a flutter of my wastegate. I now have a RS turbo noise just not as loud. I suppose I'll get use to it.

yummy :D
