A little late with my update, but I've been busy. On monday I had a full custom exhaust system fitted to my golf by ProSpeed in Cardiff (029 2046 1444). Charlie sorted me out a wicked price and with recent recommendations from other modified car owners I went with them over longlife and other local exhaust companies. £270 for the complete system fitted before lunch. Can't argue with that.

I knew I needed a 2.5" system from research online so that wasn't a problem, but once the car was on the ramp the experts told me I had a 2" downpie. Grrr. I was under the impression it was 2.5" so I could link straight in. Not a problem though. They cut the old system off right at the bottom of the downpipe which should relieve most of the back pressure that was making my boost behave weird. Another £160 for a 2.5" downpipe with 2 layer flexipipe.

They also added a 4" silencer at the front as I didn't want a boy racer noise. As I was undecided on my tailpipe design they held up a few. I'd had my eye on a single 4" pipe for a while now. Kinda Jap style (awaits yawns from everyone). It looks good now it's on. There's only 1, not 4 like most corsas I see.

I've taken 1 picture, but it's not the best to see the exhaust. When I get the golf back in a couple of days I'll mak sure i take a better one.

I seem to have got more boost now. I think this is because everything is flowing better. the ECU wasn't happy once again so we had limp mode in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Grrrr. I knocked it back a turn on the wastegate which brought it down to a max 15/16psi as it was before. The power has increase a little and it sounds awesome.

My Genesis Dual Mono amp finally arrived. Bought off the Talkaudio forums for a bargin price of £275. They're £550 new and this one had just been back to Genesis for a service and refurb so it looks new anyway. It puts out 2x150w RMS in stereo or 1x500w RMS bridged (4 ohm). Plenty to run my sub that's rated at 300w without wacking the gain right up.



I've now got it running my 10" sub off the Dual Mono and replaced my MTX 4ch amp with the Genesis ST100 amp that use to run the sub. It really needs setting up now. The front speakers are way to loud on about 25% gain and the sub is too quiet on 25% gain. Will have a fiddle soon. Also need to tidy up the wiring as I removed the TV tuner so the aerials are a mess under there.

Over the sunday morning I removed the TV tuner. It was useless anyway. Rarely picked up a signal and lost it again even quicker. Took me about 30 mins to pull the aerials out which lived behind the C pillar trim. That removed a lot of the messy wires that lived under my false floor. Then turned my amp around so the wires weren't so all over the place and fiddled a bit to get the balance right between two amps. Sounds ok now, but still lacking a bit of warmth as they say.

2nd October

Nothing really exciting happening. When the car was on the ramp we noticed one of my trackrod ends was split so needed replacing. Decided I'd swap both of them over at the same time. It turned out Designadubs managed to get another thing wrong and had put the ends on the wrong sides. With the help of the Haynes I did this little repair trouble-free. My steering wheel has been slightly out for ages now. So I put a turn more on the one side and a turn less on the other. This straightened out the wheel nicely. Just need the tracking done now ASAP so I don't wear this set of tyres like I did the last.

Also picked up a Oil filter and plug today so i can change the oil again.

German plates arrived. fitted the front one. back one will be fitted when it stops raining!

Back to pro-speed this morning for a 2.5" downpipe to be made. Charlie and the boys did a great job once again. The car now peaks high boost. I'm sure I can squeeze a little more from it before it complains lol.

Just the samco intake pipe to add now and we're off for the remap.

Also bought a JL 8" 8W7 sub and box off ebay. they should be here tomorrow.

Sub arrived yay! She's a sweet little thing. I hooked it up to the phoenix gold stand, but I don't think the amp on it was up to the task of powering the W7. It sounded ok, but nothing stunning. Seeing as I didn't have a headunit in my golf I borrowed a Kenwood KDC-W6031 from work and wired it in tonight and hooked up the new sub. It sounds aweomse. So tight and controlled. the Bass is awesome now. I'll post a pic soon.

haven't really done a lot to the old golf. Tried to sell her, but no one seems to be putting in any tempting offers. Just gave her a really good wash so it's looking good. I put my german plates on almost a week ago and I still haven't had any hastle off the old bill even with a white rear plate! Not that I'm tempting fate or anything!

I'll probably end up keeping the car now. No point in getting myself further into debt over it. I've saved enough in my e-savings account to cover my insurance which is due in december. so now I can continue with the mods. Next on the list is a Samco TIP. I want to change my actuator also as I've been told it must be broken for my boost to behave as it does. I have a spare K03 at home so I'll wip that off and see how easy it is to change.

Well my super stiff clutch was starting to annoy me a lot so I disconnected it from the gearbox to try and find out if it was the pedal, the cable or the actual mech on the gearbox which converts the original hydraulic clutch into a cable one. After removing most of the intake I got enough room to work on it. It turns out it's the cable which is causing the problems so I shall be buying another one tomorrow from VAG.

After hearing there's a rolling road day coming up next month I felt it was time I joined in on one of those and found out exactly what BHP my babe was putting out. I've been doing all the little bits to my engine before I get my remap so when I do it takes all those factors into account and gives me the best gain from it, aswell as sorting my fueling out throughout the rev range.

So the last ingredient before the remap was a Samco turbo intake pipe. If you see the standard TIP along side the Samco one you will be shocked how small and restictive it actually it. There is a 90° bend just before it joins the turbo which is very restictive. the Samco pipe is much larger here and the inside of the pipe is very smooth. I've heard reports of cars developing 5-12BHP from this add-on. Lets hope mine is one of those 12BHP gains

I shall post again when it arrives and i've fitted it. Likely to be next sunday now as it's always dark when I get home after work.

24th October 2005 (my birthday - yay)

Changed the clutch cable in the dark and in the rain. it's now super smooth. Will test drive it later when I've changed clothes as I don't want to get my 'caros wet!
