Small Update 20/11/09 :
Well Had A Bit Of Misfortune This Week Started Having Some Issue With My Main Light Switch Which Would Be As Normal When Illuminated And Then Dim On The Outer Display
Moving It Either Brightened It Or Dimmed It So First Off I Thought I'd Check The Wiring Multi-Plug Just Incase It Could Be That Well That Seemed Fine So Re-Fitted And Same So Decided It Would Be The Switch So Went To Turn It To The Removal Position Again And It Jammed Halfway
Couldnt Remove Or Push It Back So I Basically Had To Go In From The Rear Of The Switch And More Or Less Pull It Apart That Worked But From The Front I had To Remove The Single Torx Screw And In Doing So Fecked The Switch And Damaged The Bora Vent Not Happy! So Now I Had No Lights At All So Left It For The Night And In The Morning Rang My Local Vw Breaker Lucky News For Me He Should Have Both So Called In And Well Happy Came Away With A Drivers Side Bora Vent And Another Headlight Switch For Cost Of £30
All Fitted And Working Fine Now So Cheap Fix For Me There
Decided Whilst I Was Doing That That I Would Just Shorten The Gearstick By Approx 1.5 Inches Not Really A Reason I Suppose Just For How It Looks Slightly Smaller I'm Happy With It Anyway
SHORTENED GEARSTICK :
Further Updates As It Happens.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 30/11/09 :
Picked up my new jom replacement shock the other day ready to get fitted onto the car
well managed to get it fitted yesterday in the p!$$ing rain but wanted to get it fitted
first time i went out and drove it was this morning for work and happy to report the creaking noise has gone but for how long until this one plays up
??
fitting it was straightforward but i'm not suprised it was creaky/faulty due to the fact that at the top of the shock body i assume there is a seal fitted under the collar and its coated in rust which in turn has affected the actual pushrod and was found to be coated with rust and some pitting in the surface when i compressed it the pushrod remained in the shock body and i had to pull it out
not good really on a unit that i fitted in may time iirc so has been on for six months and done under 10k looking at it you would expect the condition to reflect 5 years/50k
so clearly somethings at fault
FAULTY SHOCK :
For the money the jom kit is imo good other than the two replacement shocks i have had no issues with the set-up but clearly there is a fault/problem with the rear shocks for the mk4 golf and tbh what happens if i have another fault with either shock they are out of warranty and won't get replaced so after some thinking i'm going to replace the jom kit with some coil overs
(and the jom kit will be getting some usage with another forum member which is wes (wazzzer) ) i have never had a car with coil overs so this will be an experience then but i like how they look fitted to some of the other mk4 owners well was believe it or not going to go with the jom+ kit but some more thinking and i made a call to nick @ r-tech to book the golf in for the v-maxx kit that they have in their november offers
along with some adjustable droplinks to allow some clearance for the front arb if i decide to drop lower than 50mm if it still rubs or is close then i'l have to look at upgrading the arb in the new year but short term will see how the droplinks fair so all being well i should be going down to get coillies fitted the week before christmas and can't wait
Also this past week i have fitted my newly painted front grille (kindly given to me by my mate jonny)same as before but it matches the wing mirror covers in gloss black collected that friday and fitted yesterday along with a set of oem aero wiper arms and the aero blades which has been abit of a headache for me since ordering last monday originally the retro fit blades but the stealers managed to feck up and i got aero's instead so had to source some arms for them which i got from a fire damaged 'R32' from my local vw breakers needs must and all that so that turned into a little painting project and i'm really pleased in how they have turned out as they look the exact same as o.e.m ones
also before that i had to return to the stealers as i suspected they had fecked up again!! and got me a l/h drive set so returned those in exchange for the single blades and needless to say they were told i wouldn't be paying the difference because of their feck up
all sorted and onto getting them painted up and then fitted well i thought the retro fits were fine until i fitted these and they look so much better with the real deal as others have told me so all this little upgrade is all because the retro's were past their best and i needed to replace those as well as the rear aero blade to and with vw fecking up with the wipers i had to go aero
cheers vw good reason as any i suppose.

Update 22/12/09 :
Well Finally The Time Came For A Trip Down To R-Tech For A Set Of V-Maxx Adjustable Coilovers And Adjustable Droplinks To Get Fitted To The Golf To Replace The Jom Springs And Shock Set Up This Is The First Car Ever I Have Had That I Have Gone The Coillie Route So Will Be An Experience For Me The Kit Itself looks Good For The Money And Was Suprised By How It Felt Driving The 200 Miles Back Home Although I Can Defo Tell Its Different When You Get Any Crap Road Surfaces Its Defo Firm But Thats Going To Be Expected Afterall Well The Rear Perches Are Wound To The Bottom Limit And I'm Happy With How It Sits The Front I Asked Ben To Wind The Perches Up
And Like He Said You Have To Drop It When You Have Coillies Or Whats The Point So He Said To Give It A Week Or So And See How It Looks Well Got Up This Morning Looked At It And Said Feck It There Getting Dropped So This Afternoon Wheels Off And The Perches Wound Down To Leave Four Threads Showing (unsure Of The Actual Drop Tbh) Wheels On And See How It Looks mmmmmm Much Better
Now I'm Happy So Will Be Going For A Drive Tommorrow To See How It Fairs Just Moved Off The Drive Today To Check For Any Rubbing In The Front Arb/Driveshaft Area Should Be Okay As Ben Wound The Droplinks Out A Little To Allow For That And It Seems That Its Fine I Couldn't Detect any Noise So All Good
So Onto The Pics :
V-MAXX KIT & DROPLINKS :
ALSO TO BE FITTED NEW TOP MOUNTS AND BEARINGS :
RANDOM PICS OF FITTING/PARTS :
AND HOW IT LOOKS/SITS NOW :
Well Thats It For 2009 So Hoping To Work Through My To Do List During The Next Year So Keep Looking
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 29/12/09 :
Decided As It Was Cold But Sunny Yesterday That Myself And Jonnyturbo Would Remove Our Alloys To Give Them A Good Clean And Then Apply A Couple Of Coats Of Sealant To Them Before Re-Fitting That All Went To Plan But On Re-Fitting My Fronts Noticed A Small Area Of The Coilover Rings Had A Small Scuff Mark On Them
So Re-Fitted One Of My Alloys To See Whats Happening Well On Lowering Back Down It Became Clear That The Tyre Side Wall Was Touching The Adjuster Rings
Tbh There Was No Evidence Of Rubbing On The Sidewall When The Alloy Was Removed Which Was Strange And I Hadn't Heard Anything Whilst Driving Although I Have Driven Nearly 230 Miles Since Fitment So Removed The Alloy And What To Do Well Fortunately For Me My Good Mate Jonny Provded A Pair Of 5mm Spacers For Me So We Fitted These And There Is Now Minimal Clearance Now Between The Adjuster Rings And Tyre Sidewall So All Good Funnily Enough I Was Thinking Of Re-Fitting Some 5mm Spacers Back Onto The Fronts At Some Point So Thats Done Now
And At The Same Time Decided That I Will Be Fitting Some 20mm Spacers On The Rear Now So Earlier This Afternoon I Ordered Up A Pair Of 20mm Spacers With Longer Bolts And Some Longer Locking Bolts So Hoping That They Will Be With Me Sometime Before I Go Back To Work To Get Fitted
NICE CLEAN AND SEALED ALLOYS :
RUBBING TYRE SIDEWALL :
CLEARANCE NOW WITH 5MM SPACERS :
RANDOM ONES OF HOW ITS SITTING ON THE COILOVERS :
Thats All For Now.

Update 31/12/09 :
Well I Ordered Some Longer Wheel Bolts Yesterday (35mm) And They Arrived This Morning Along With My Longer Locking Bolts (45mm) Hopefully The Spacers And Bolts Will Be Here At The Weekend? Anyway Cut Two Of The Locking Bolts Down To 35mm To Be Able To Use With The Front Longer Bolts And Got Them Fitted To The Front Wheels And At Least Now They Go Into The Hub Abit Further Than The Standard Bolts So Should Be More Secure As Of Now
Have Also Managed To Modify The Oem Plastic Locking Nut Covers To Grip The Heads Of The New Locking Bolts To
So If My 20mm Spacers Arrive At The Weekend I Will Be Fitting Those And Getting Some Pics Up So i'll Update Then.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 17/01/10 :
Well After Cancelling One Order For My Rear Spacers I Then Ordered A set From Venom On The 2nd Of Jan But Due To The Crap Weather And My Luck There Were Problems
After Nothing For A Week I called Venom Who Told Me The Spacers Were In The Uk But They Hadn't Yet Recieved Them So Earlier This Week As I Was Getting Fed Up Asked Again And Still They Hadn't Recieved Them But Assured Me I Would Have Them This Weekend So Finally Called Them Again Thursday Night To Be Told They Still Hadn't Got Them So I Told Them To Cancel My Order And Promptly Refund Me And I'l Go Elsewhere So I Rang Pcs Who I Ordered My Longer 35 & 50mm Oem Bolts From As I Knew They Stock Spacers (Why I Didn't Just Try Them First I'l Never Know
) Anyway They Had Half Sets Of 20mm's Available And I Asked If They Could Sort Delivery Out For Me For Saturday Morning Bearing In Mind This Was Last Thing Thursday Evening Well They Were Ever Helpful And When I Got Home From Work Yesterday Afternoon They Had Duly Arrived
Well Happy To Say The Least And Top Marks To 'Performance Car Centre' From Darwin Lancs
So Last Night I Set To Fitting Them
Must Say Noticeable Difference From My 15's Looking Just Right Now So That's Sorted Finally.
20MM HUBCENTRIC BOLT-THRU SPACERS & BOLTS :
AND ALL FITTED :

Update 30/01/10 :
Well Realised This Week That I Have Had My Gti For Two Years Can't Believe How Much Its Changed During That Time
Well Its Now Approaching 70,000 Miles When I First Got It It Had Covered 43,950 Miles so In My Two Years Of Ownership I have Covered 25,858 Miles
And If I Recall Its Done Nearly 20,000 Miles Since My R-Tech Re-Map And On The Original Clutch
Also This Week Took The Car In To My Local Stealers For Its M.o.t And Got Another 12 Months Ticket No Problems
Well decided On Another Small Mod (not On My List) After Helping Jonny Last Week So Won A Brand New S3 Upper Strut Brace Of E-Bay I Was Hoping That I Would Have Recieved It By Now So I Could Of Fitted It This Weekend But Looks Like Its Being Sent On Monday Ah Well
Awaiting My Delivery Of The Bolts And Nuts To Fit It Anyway So They Should Be With Me Early Next Week So Hopefully It Should Get Fitted Then After A Feck Up On T.p.s's Behalf Friday I Collected My Parts For The S3 Lower Strut Brace
So Decided After Work Today I May As Well Get It Fitted As Its Easy Enough So Thats Now Fitted Got A Few Pics Of It Installed And Once The Upper Ones Fitted Will Get Some Pics Of That Also.
AUDI S3 LOWER STRUT BRACE & PARTS :
Once I Get The Upper One And The Bolts Etc And Get It Fitted I'l Be Updating
Well Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 03/02/10 :
Well Decided To Have A Couple Of Days Holiday Off Work And Had Hoped My Upper Strut Brace Would Arrive So I Can Get It Fitted But Still No Sign Of It Or My Bolts
So Today I Decided To Give The End Faces Of My Locking Bolts As I Discovered On Washing It At The Weekend That I Had Lost Two Of My 'Modded' O.e.m Caps
Ah Well Decided I wouldn't Replace Them And Rather Than See The Chrome Of The Lockers It Seemed Like A Good Idea To Give The Faces A Coat Of Satin Black To Look In Place With The Plastic Caps Covering The Other Four Bolts Whilst Painting Those I Decided Feck It I'l Wind The Front Coillies Down More And Also Remove The Rear Adjuster Rings/Perches
So Set To With That Job Definately Gained A Small Drop On The Rears By Removing Those Parts So Worthwhile Doing And The Fronts Sitting Abit Lower Also So All Good...........Hurry Up Strut Brace
So Onto Some Pics From Todays Work.
PAINTED LOCKING BOLT END FACES :
FITTED :
Tidys It Up That Little Bit.
COILOVERS (REAR ADJUSTER RINGS/PERCHES REMOVED & FRONTS WOUND DOWN MORE) :
Thats All For Now So Update To Follow When My Strut Brace And Bolts Arrive And Gets Fitted.
Thanks For Looking/Reading .

Update 07/02/10 :
Well Still My S3 Upper Strut Brace Had Not Arrived
This Week And I Was Getting Fed Up So Decided That I Would Just Sort That Out With Paypal
So Friday Before Work I Rang My Local Trade Parts Specialists Gave Them The Part Number And Asked Them To Order One In For Me And Good News It Should Be In Saturday
Nice One So First Thing Saturday I Got My Bolts All Sorted Anmd Gave Them A Call To See If It Was In Only To Be Given The News That It Hadn't Shown Up On Their Delivery
Oh Well Be Tuesday Then
Well Then Abit Of Good Luck About An Hour Later A Phone call From Them To Tell Me It Was In Fact With Them Apparently Mine Was The Only Item That Had Turned Up For Saturday Delivery It Was Mixed With Some Other Stillages So Nice One Off I Went Over To Pick It Up Last Night I Marked It All Out And Set To And Drilled The Holes Out as Well As Primering And Painting Them Up To Prevent Rusting So By Then It Was Dark So Left The Fitting Until This Morning Jonny Popped Over To Lend A Hand And We Got It Fitted For Me At Last!!
S3 UPPER STRUT BRACE
AND FITTED
Thats All For Now Further Updates Will Be Added As And When They Happen
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 14/02/10 :
Well Since Dropping The Front Coillies Down Abit More I'v Found That On Full Lock On The Drivers Side That The Arb Has Been Rubbing Nicely On The Driveshaft And Doesn't Sound Nice At All So Decided that Today I Would Have A Look At Sorting It Well Seeing That I Have Fitted Some Adjustable Droplinks Then I Should Be Able To Make An Adjustment
Well I Did And Altered Them Out By Approx 25mm So Okay The Arb Hoop Was Missing The Driveshaft With A Fair Bit More Gap Now So All Back Together And Wheels Fitted And Dropped Back On The Drive Backed Out Onto The Road To Try Turning Into The Drive Only To Find It Was Worse Than Ever
So Time To Get It All Back To Bits Again For another Attempt Well Initially The Droplinks Were Fitted Just About Onto The Locking Nut mmmmmmm So No Room For Anymore Adjustment And I'm Back To Where I Was Initially Still Rubbing so Wound Them Out And Removed The Locknut Which Then Made It About 6mm Shorter Than They Were So Fitted All Back Together Lowered Back Onto The Drive To Check And This Time The Arb Was Still Quite Away From The Driveshaft And More Noticeably There Is Now A Gap Between The Flange Of The Arb And Driveshaft Both Straight Ahead And On Full Lock
Back Onto The Road And Turned Back Onto The Drive And No Noise
So The Solution Is To
Shorten
The Droplinks
NOT SO NICE 'RUBBING' DAMAGE TO THE DRIVESHAFT :
Thats All For Now
Thanks For Looking/Reading.
