Update 15/05/10 :
So After Fitting The Lower Boost Hose What Could Be Next Well I Turned My Attention To The Subject Of My 'GTI' Badges The Other Weekend After Giving The Car A Polishing Session I Noticed That The Red Tape Of One Of The Letters Had Started To Lift Away So Stuck It Back Down And Had A close Look At The Badge On The Rear And After The Crap Winter Weather And All The Salt They Weren't Exactly Looking O.e.m
And I Don't Want The Tape Fading So They Look Pink
So Whilst Following Another Gti The Other Night I Made My Mind Up To Ditch The Cheapo E-Bay Ones And Go Back O.e.m Spec 25th Anniversary Ones More Suited I Reckon And Should Look Good On The Front Grille
So Got Two Ordered From My Local Dealers And Picked Them Up This Afternoon Ready To Put On Car Washed And Pretty Soon The Cheapo Ones Were Removed Polish Up To Remove The Adhesive Residue And Ready For Fitting
THE FRONT GRILLE WITH O.E.M SPEC BADGE :
THE REAR WITH O.E.M SPEC BADGE :
Does Look Much Better With O.e.m Badges Fitted I Should Have Fitted Those In The First Place
Up To Date Now So Any More Things That Happen Will As Usual Be Updated.
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 23/05/10 :
well Time For Another Update Not Featuring In My To Do List Was to Upgrade My Steering Wheel So To Speak But Having Seen A Post Within The Mkiv Section Well Next Thing I Know The Search Begins
Had My Eye On a Couple On E-Bay But Rang My Local Vw Breaker To See If They Had Anything And As Luck Would Have It I Got What I Was After
OCTAVIA/FABIA vRS STEERING WHEEL :
An R32 One Would Be Nice But To Be Slightly Different Is No Bad Thing And Its Still O.e.m But Rather Better Alternative To The Standard Gti Wheel I Aquired It In Reasonable Condition But Would Be Cleaning It Up Before Fitting It Anyway And Got A New Bolt From Vw At The Same Time
Overall The Wheel Was Decent But A Good Clean Etc And I Had My New Steering Wheel Looking As Good As New
SO AFTER A CLEANING SESSION THE RESULT :
The Result Of Some Apc And Poorboys Maxi Suds (for Washing) And Dressed/Treated With 4 Coats Of Poorboys Natural Look Dressing
Well Yesterday I Finally Managed To Get It Fitted To The Car
OLD ONE READY FOR REMOVAL :
OLD V NEW COMPARISON :
ALL FITTED
:
Also With An idea From My Girlfriend Who Said Maybe It Would Be A Good Idea To Have The Rear Windows Tinted
As Well As The Cosmetic Look Combined With The Black 'B' Pillars And Silver Paint It Does Have The More Useful Benefits Of Privacy Cooling/Warmth Etc So I Had The Car Booked In Yesterday At A Local Tinting Company Who Tinted Them With Some 'True Gray' Tint An Early Birthday Present To Me
A Good Job Has Been Done And Overall I'm Happy With Everything Only Problem is I Had To Have My Forum Window Stickers Removed
But Im Thinking Of Wether To Buy Some More And Fit Them To The Two Front Windows I'm Not Sure How They Would Look
I'll Have To See
So With The Tints Done
HERE'S HOW IT LOOKS AFTER WINDOW TINTS :
AND LOOKING FROM DISTANCE :
So That's About It For Now This Is The Stage I'm At So As Usual Any Updates Will Be Posted Here :
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 31/05/10 :
Had An Issue With The Car Hitting Limp Mode seems To Hit 5 Psi Then Thats It! Not Good So A Little investigation Was needed The Forge T.i.p Was Re-Adjusted As It Seemed To Have Abit Of Lateral Movement And Was Found To Have Moved Slightly On The Turbo Inlet Stub This Was All Re-Adjusted And Seemed Fine No Other Problems Were Found So Hoped It Would Be Okay Well 3 Days Later Same Again So This Time When It Did It I Stopped The Car And Switched Off The Ignition Turned Back On And Drove Away And The Car Was Perfectly Fine Again.......So It Looks Like An Intermittant Electrical/Sensor Issue So Unable To Data Log With Vag-Com (Only Shareware Version) I Had To narrow It Down To The Possibility Of 3 Sensors So I Picked Up A New M.a.p Sensor From My Local Dealers And Also At The Same Time I Removed And Gave The A.i.t Sensor A good Clean (The Sensor Probe Was All Carboned Up) Fitted The New Map Sensor And After A Drive All Seemed Good Few Days Later The Outside Temperature Was A Little Lower ( Car Seemed To Play Up At Low Temps ) Well Pleased To Say It Looks Like A New M.a.p Sensor And A.i.t Clean Have Sorted The Issue
Thats The Lot For Now
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 12/06/10 :
Nothing Major Happening With The Golf At The Moment But After Washing It This Morning I Decided I Would Alter How The Secondary Air pump Filter Is Located As I Decided I Didn't Like Where I Had It Currently Fitted After Fitting The Cai So Re-Positioned It But Later This Afternoon I Yet Again Re-Located It To A Position That I'm Now Happier With Also Made A Minor Fitting Modification To The Lower Engine Cover And Got That Seating Firmly On One Of The Locating Screws
Too Much Time On My Hands
HOW THE SAI FILTER WAS LOCATED AFTER CAI FITTING :
AND NOW RE-LOCATED :
Looks That Bit Neater Now Imo
Thats It For Now Until Any Major Update Is Needed
THanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 27/06/10 :
Well A Little While Ago An Idea came To Me About Tidying Up The Coilpacks But How As I Had Got My Camcover Powdercoated And Looking Nice With The Blue Anodised Fastenings To Set It All Off But The Coilpacks Looked A Little To Plain So The Plan Was To Remove Them And Paint The Tops As Near A Colour Match As The Anodised Blue As I Could Get Which Once Painted Would Draw Anyone To The Cam Cover As A Focal Point Under The Bonnet And Really For Me Finish Off Under There I'm Always Saying Hadn't Planned That
But End Up Doing Something As I'm Almost At The End Of My Wish/Modification List For My Golf So Once This Job Was Done Effectively The Engine Bays Complete
So After Work Friday i Picked Up The Primer/Clearcoat And Once Found The Colour I Decided Most Suited As A Match Some
Vauxhall Arden Pearlescent Blue
Paint So Yesterday The Job Began Starting Off With Masking Up Effectively The Electrical Plug And Around It As Well As Below The Top Of The Coilpacks Once Done 3 Coats Of Plastic Primer Followed By 3 Coats Of The Arden Blue Basecoat And Finally 2 Coats Of Clearcoat Laquer And With The Weather Being Kind The Coilpacks Dried Really Well But To Make Sure Completely I Left Them Overnight And Resisted Fitting Until This Morning
Still Imo The Result Was Worth It And The Colour Match Is 99% Correct
Good Work There And I Now Have The Desired Effect/End Result
So Heres How The Coilpack Look Was Achieved
MASKED UP FOR PRIMER :
3 COATS OF PRIMER :
ARDEN BLUE AFTER 3 COATS :
AND THE 2 COATS OF CLEARCOAT :
FINISHED DE-MASKED PRIOR TO FITTING :
AND NOW THERE ALL FITTED
:
So Thats The Recent Progress For Now But I'm Hoping There Should Be A Couple More Updates To Come Over The Period Of July
Watch This Space
As Usual Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 10/07/10 :
Well Time For An Update I Think Has Been A Busy Week On The Golf Most Importantly Last Friday Morning Two Nice Boxes Were Delivered First Thing Friday Morning Courtesy Of 'THS' My Long Awaited Front Mount Intercooler I Read Up On This Fmic And A Few Phone Calls To Nick @ R-Tech And Myself And Jonnyturbo Had A Nice Little Deal Done For Our Fmic's
Just To Say At This Point Another Big Thankyou To Nick For Helping Us Out On This And Going The Extra Mile You Knew How Badly I Wanted Mine
Loooking At The Ths Kit Everything Looked Good And Quality Is Second To None And Also A Little Cheaper Than The 'Forge' One
All Good Both Work On The Twinpass Principle And Utilise The Original Route From The Oem Set up Although No Modded Crash Bar With The Ths Unlike Forge But The Ths Kit Has Their Nice Little Upgraded 'Pancake Pipe' And Is Good Value For The Money Imo
.So Saturday Was A Day Dedicated To Getting Both The Fmic's Fitted To Mine And Jonny's Cars
Well After Jonny Arrived And Abit Of A Chat Etc We Started On Removing The Front End Ready To Get All The New Kit On Easy Enough Job The Next Job Up Was To Remove The Internal Wall Inside The O.e.m Crash Bar Drivers Side To Enable The Silicone Hose To Be Fitted This Turned Out Abit Of A Nightmare Job/Scenario If I'm Honest And At One Point Even I Was Going To Admit Defeat!!
Still After A Break And A Re-Think We Took A Deep Breathe And Carried On And Eventually Our Efforts Paid Off With The Successful Removal Of The Required Piece I Can't Tell You How Much That Gave Me Satisfaction At Last The Akward Bit Was Done!! All In I'd Say That Little Episode Cost Us Three Hours!! So Onto The Best Bit The Fitting
The 'THS' Kit Tbh Had Some Comprehensive Instructions But I Would Point Out That Its Tight With Mine Having The Headlight Washers Fitted Nothing That A Little 'Tweaking' Wont Re-Solve Tho (Although I Still Have To Trim The Opening On The Drivers Side Bumper As The Unit Catches The Edge When Manually Lifting Out So Thats A Point To Remember For Anyone Else
) Mine All Went Back Together Okay Although Its A Little Tight For Room/Fitting All The Important Bit Done It Was A Case Of Trial And Error FittingTrimming With My O.e.m Bumper and It Did Require Alot Of Trimming To Get It Re-Fitted!! I Eventually Got Mine Back On The Car At 12.30Am!! Was Well Knackered On The Sunday Morning Tho But Had To Get The Drivers Side Lower Grille Vent Trimmed Up For Re-Fitting And It Required A Fair Bit Of Trimming But Eventually I Got It Fitted Along With The Passenger Side One Which Fitted As Per Original Fitment But Chose Down To Personal Preference Not To Re-Fit The Centre One
All In All It Was Worth It After The Initial Pain! And It Does Look Good Fitted On The Car
ITS ARRIVED!! :
NICE SHINY FMIC :
FRONT END REMOVAL :
RE-PAINTED CRASH BAR :
ASSEMBLY OF FMIC TO CRASH BAR :
FITTING ALL THE KIT :
AND HOW IT ALL LOOKS FITTED :
Also During Last Week My Blue Silicone Hose And 90 Degree Elbow Arrived And Another Idea Was To Finish Off The Look In The Engine Bay With The Blue Hoses Was Why Not Paint The Jubille Clips On The Catch Can Hose And Chargepipe/Dv Well Got The Clips Painted On Saturday Before Jonny Arrived And Done In The Same Blue As The Coilpack Tops
So Now That I Had My Two Sizes Of Required Hose And The Elbow I Could Now Get The Catch Can Hose Sorted Out To A Position I Was Happy With Third Time Lucky
A Small Modification To The Battery Cover Was Done And The Hoses All Fitted Really Pleased How My Engine Bay Finally Looks!!
JUBILLEE CLIPS PAINTED :
AND THE FITTED SILICONE HOSES :
AND THE FINISHED ENGINE BAY :
During The Week I Still Wasn't 100% Happy With The Fitting Of The Centre Lower Grille Area Of The Bumper As It Was Tight To The Fmic So Marked Up A Line To Follow The Original Bumper Contour And Trimmed It To Suit Resulting In Some Clearance And Now It Looks That Bit Better
Also Decided That The Jubilee Clips On The Silicone Hose Looked To Noticeable Imo So To Sort That They Were Both Painted Resulting In The Fact You Don't Even Notice Them at All Now
CENTRE SECTION RE-TRIMMED :
Also Had Another Little Idea In Mind For The Fmic And Thought It Would Look A Nice Subtle Feature To Show It Off
The 'R-Tech' Logo Having Spoken To Nick Previously This Was An Idea I Had In My Mind For My Fmic Anyway And Knew Nick Would Like It
So No Time Like Now And Yesterday I Sorted Out With A Local Graphics/Printing Firm To Make Me Up An Adhesive Vinyl Stencil/Template With The Said Logo Also Got Some Primer And Paint Bought I Decided To Go With Blue Lettering And After Alot Of Picking & Choosing I Eventually Decided On A Bmw Colour 'Montreal Metallic Blue' Picked Up My Template Last Night And Set To And Applied It To The Fmic Core And Masked All The Front End Of The Car Up
TEMPLATE APPLIED & MASKED UP :
Also Decided That The R/h Side Of The Cooler Where It Sits Behind The Bumper Looked To Open So I made Up Out Of An Old wheel Arch Liner A Piece To Cover In That Corner And Got It Fitted And It All Looks Oem Now And Looks Part Of The Bumper

Update 10/07/10 (Continued) :
PRIMER & BASECOAT APPLIED :
That All Done I Covered Everything Over As I Wanted To Leave It Overnight So As To De-Mask It All Today So This Morning I got Up Early And De-Masked Everywhere And I'm Real Pleased With The Result And How Its Turned Out
THE FINISHED LOOK :
And On Monday Its A Trip Down To Nick For My Stage 2 Re-Map
Really looking Forward To This!
Update To Follow This Happening
Thats The Lot For Now!
Thanks For Looking/Reading.

Update 16/07/10 :
Well Monday Was The Northeast Road Trip Down To R-Tech
For Myself And Jonnyturbo To Have Nicks 'Spec 2' Re-Map Put On Our Cars Now That Our Ths Fmic's Were Now Finally Fitted
Well For Me I Wondered Wether That My Car Would Be Able To Get On Nicks Rollers With How Low It Sits Nick Told Me It Might Do Well After Nick Had Finished A Re-Map On A Cupra And Jonny Had Had A Run On The Rollers Etc I Was Soon To Find Out Well With A Little Alteration To The Ramps The Car Got Onto The Ramps But Was Very Close! So Before It Had Its Run Nick Decided That It Would Be Too Low
And Said That He Would Alter The Coillies Up A Touch So Wheels off And Then The Coillie Adjustment Rings Were Found To Be A Right B!tch To Un-Do
However After Perservering Nick Managed To Wind Them Up A Fraction
Wheels Back On And Car Dropped Back Down Level Onto The Ramps For Nick To Give It A Once Over Before Running It Well More Bad News From Nick And He Called Me Over To Have A Look Well Turns Out My Newly Fitted Lower Chargepipe/Pancakepipe Boost Hose Had Signs Of Rubbing
So Onto A Run On The Dyno And Not Good Nick Telling Me It Wasn't Making The Required Figures
So He Had Another Look Underneath And More Bad News That Same Pipe Was Sitting A Mere 3mm From The Driveshaft And Looking Like The Jubilee Clip Had Chaffed Against It Also The Hose Had Now Split Under Load
At This Point I Walked Away Rather P!$$ed Off To Say The Least!!
Came Back In To Hear Nick Calling Me A Few Words And My Boost Hose On The Floor
And Now Me Stuck With No Car
So Back Out Again For A Deep Breathe And Nick Shouts Me In To Tell Me He Has Found Another Boost Hose
How Much Better Did I Feel Now Well 10 Minutes Later Nick Calls Me Over To Under The Car And Shows Me What He Has Done Well He Removed The 'Ths' Pancakepipe From The Original Fixing Stud And Re-Drilled and Bolted It To The Chassis Another 15-20mm Further Forward In Doing So This Then Created About 15mm Worth Of Clearance From The Hose To The Driveshaft
Good Work/Thinking From Nick I Wouldn't of Known About This Tbh Well Not Until The Hose Had Completely Split (like It Did On The Dyno) It Could Have Done It On The Trip Down
So Lucky Really It Did It On The Dyno Turns Out That Due To The Fittings Of The Fmic 'Settling down' Over The Week Since Fitting And Me Having The Coillies Wound Down The Noises I Was Hearing Over The Week Were The Driveshaft And Arb Touching As Well as The Hose Jubilee Clip Touching The Driveshaft (Found Evidence On The D/Shaft Where It Had Been Rubbing) Also Just To Add To My Day The Rev Counter And Speedo Decided To Play Up And Became Erratic
Well After The Hose Was Fitted Nick Loaded The 'Spec 2' Map And Onto A Run On The Dyno All Was Well This Time
No Issues So I Was Happy And Was Still Happy Once Nick Came Back After A Quick Test Drive And Confirmed All Good So My Turn
Nick Has Pointed Out The 'Spec 2' Is Not All About Bhp Increases As Such But More Down To Torque Increase Throughout The Rev Range And A Smoother Delivery Well He Isn't Wrong The Car Hits 21 Psi And 2nd 3rd 4th And 5th Even Down To Low Mph Revs Feck Me Does It Pull!! The Response Is Really Strong I Liked My Stage 1 Gen 4 Beta But Feck Me This Is Awesome Response Is Immediate!! No Evidence Of Lag Even With The Fmic Either Needless To Say I'm Very Happy!
So After All The Issues Throughout The Day The End Result Was Worth It!
231.8 BHP
&
259.9 Lb/Ft Torque
GENERAL PICS FROM THE DAY :
MY DAMAGED/SPLIT BOOST HOSE :
MY DYNO GRAPH :
Tuesday Saw Me Removing The Instrument Cluster And Taking It Apart To See If There Were Any Problems Well I Re-Aligned The Rev Counter & Speedo Needles Put It All Back Together And Re-Fitted Back Into The Car And Was Pleased To See That Everything Is Now Working Correctly Again
Also I Decided To Leave The Rear Coillies As They Are As They Are Fine But Checked The Two Fronts To Make Sure They Were Level And Levelled Both Up And Adjusted Them Both Down Approx 3 Threads Hardly a Difference To How Nick Set Them But I'm Not Wanting To Wind Them Down Tbh As I Have Enough Clearance Running As They Are Now And The Car Looks Okay When level So All good And Ride Feels Fine Still Stiff But At Least Its Not Bottoming Out Nick Says I Can Lower It Abit At a Time And See But Tbh I'd Rather Leave It As I Have Now Set It Up That Way I Still Clear The Driveshaft With The Hose And Also Now I Can Have The Car On Full R/h Lock As The Front Arb No Longer Rubs On The Driveshaft either
Also Ordered Another 2 Metres Of Blue Silicon Hose As I Plan To Turn My Oil Catch Can Round And Make Some Changes With The Hoses Yet Again
Thanks For looking/Reading.

Update 17/07/10 :
Thought I'd Just Put In Another Update As The Golf's Just About How I Want It Now So Anything Else May Be Few And Far Between Well Ordered Some More Blue Silicone Hose For My Catch Can As I Still Felt That It Needed Sorting After What Must Be The 3rd Time In The Last Month
Still Got To Replace The Lower Hose To The Breather Outlet In The Cyl Block But That Can Wait For Now So Today I Removed The Hoses And Catch Can Gave Everything Abit Of A Clean Up And What I Have Done Is Turn The Catch Can 180 Degree's So That The Outlet To The Breather Faces To The Cam Cover Hose & T-Piece Re-painted The Bracket And Turned That Round To Re-Fix To The Plastic Cover And Then Just A Case Of Fixing On The Blue Silicone Hose Looks A little Neater Now I Think Finally
RE-POSITIONED OIL CATCH CAN :
HOW IT ALL LOOKS NOW :
Thats's All For Now
Thanks For Looking/Reading.
