I had the silver tipped nology uprated plugs fitted to my car on Friday by Nick. As it was done as part of many other things, I can't make any comment on whether the make the blindest bit of difference, but Nick recommended them highly, so that's good enough for me  :nerd:

Question:
Aren't Platinum or Iridium spark plugs the best?

Answer:
No. As a matter of fact, Platinum and Iridium are some of the worst metal conductors. The reason why Platinum and Iridium spark plugs are used is for longevity only. They can last up to 100,000 miles. If you are looking for longevity, they are for you. If you are looking for performance, choose silver.

The big question is, though, did he gain 7 bhp from these plugs, or did he rediscover 7 'lost' bhp from shot plugs???

Looking back at the pm he sent,i don't think he's running these on his car yet.

I've had OEM plugs, denso iridium tough's and now bosch super 4's. If i'm honest i don't think there much in them, you always think/feel a slight improvemnet when putting new plug's in anyway but there definatly wasn't much differance. Saying that when my AGU with remap went on the rolling road it had the denso's in and achieved 199 (corrected to 193bhp) which i was pleased with as i had no other mod's. Wether or not that was the plug's rollers or just a good day i can't say though.

My opinion is the bosch plug's seem pretty good value for money so far. Can be had for £16 a set (got mine for £8) and reading up on bosch website seem to be well designed.

mmmm probably  as a worn plug thats covered loads of miles and is in need of a change certainly wont have the performance of a brand new plug even if they are uprated

Exactly.  If the original plugs were new as well, then that would be a great gain. :)

I have no idea when the plugs were last changed in my Golf, a good couple of years ago I should imagine!  I may look into some of these soon, £12 each is a tad steep though.

These arn't the plugs that Nick has advised,he gained a fair bit of power from the Nology silver tip spark plugs.

The nology silver and Bosch super 4s plugs are what we use at the moment.  We have tested coil pack which made greater power over oem but the cost to have them produced was ott.  Plus we have tested some new plugs from USA which use a capasitor technology in side the plug to produce a greater spark. When fitted to Bens AUM the smooths a inhertent flat spot out and gave another 7bhp avg over the Bosch plugs.  I will get the graphs dug out.  We need to find some time and play a bit more with these plugs and comapre them back to back.

This is very impressive,i assume that the plugs removed were in good condition? What plugs were they Nick?

They are very good plug, we also had some good results on a few MK2s and a Mi16 on 45s carbs.

We want to find the time to do back to back runs with a few sets of brand new plugs.

http://www.pulstar.com  We had 4 sets to play with one set we smashed up to see what was inside.

Not much yet,

Back to back with super4s they make a huge gain in performance which can be seen on the dyno overlay but not felt on the road.

Have a word with Jamie at CC he can taylor the remap to how you want it, with in reason and with in hardware working limits, The tameness could be down to turbo  characteristics.  I dont know what the compressor map of the JBS04 is like so I cannot comment on how the car could perform.

I do rate the super 4s, We have started to trial the nology silver plugs aswell which seem to be really good with high temps.
I have always used  super 4s on my calibra turbo, and customs cars.
We have found that the pulsed plugs seem to be a lot better, but at 3 or 4 times the price.  So for the money the Bosch 4s FTW!

Oh yer!!

They have been tested on Richards 1.8t Audi TT from Redline magazine, the tesing was carried out today at the Powerstation rolling road centre.  I could not atttend the testing today  :embarassed: but Graham went donw and spent a day with them. The results I have been told are very good :smug:. The plugs managed to produce a good power again on a strong 1.5bar APR 240bhp remapped 225bhp TT.  Graham has got the Nippon cup over the week and so I am not going to speak to him until Monday morning but as soon as I get the results I will post them up.
