khare as I said before, Adrian Flux would happily charge me £2000 for insurance on a MK3 8v but if I changed my GL to an 8v GTi, it would add £160. Madness!

A 1.1 Saxo with a VTS/VTR engine dropped in costs less than insuring a VTS/VTR.....who knows how they work

tell me what is the point of fitting a ABF to this car when you can go out and buy the same car.

x10000

plus will also be cheaper to insure
No, and no.

Insuring the 16v was actually about £300 more expensive. Where as If I do the conversion, only have to put £140 on top.

Is that telling them everything, as I know you have not declared the cam change  :lipsrsealed:
yup, told them I'd be changing for a 16v in the near future.

Had further talks with DH today and it seems like it will be taking place, probably around late April/June time.
The donor car has a fair price tag on it and I'll claw some money back by selling spare bits from it and then weighting in the shell at the scrapyard. Also by selling bits from the old 8v engine, I'll give the cylinder head a rebuilt and a good clean and sell it on for a decent amount, just like I did with the old cyl head I had from the mk2 GTI (sold it for £110 in the end).

I was going to change the cambelt, clutch, every fluid, and a few other bits and bobs but DH assured me the engine is running sweet so I'll leave the clutch out and save myself some money. I'll do the cambelt and fluids and bolt it in, that should keep me going for the rest of the year at least

More updates when I have more news

My honest opinion, your putting in an engine that is not much quicker or has much more if any torque than what you have fitted, so your doing a shed load of work for very little gain but you only listen to a couple of people thesedays so no matter what anyone else says your still going to do it.

100% pointless fitting a 16v engine in your car, for the money it will cost you could sell up and move on to something better / quicker.

Yes people convert and it would be a different matter if you were fitting a 1.8T.

but then again it's they way the engine throws out the power. Mine has great midrange, but that's about it....Cam increased some midrange and very little bottom end, and only added 200 more revs to play with. After 5700rpm all power is just lost, and to be fair, my driving style involves midrange and top end which is were the 16v shines. The 16v keeps that torque all throughout the midrange and top end, mine starts loosing torque at 4400rpm. It might only have 12hp more but the way it uses them is so much different.
Also I know my engine is starting to go weaker and weaker, and I don't want to risk it going to Spain and breaking down in the middle of France or somewhere in Spain.

Why not sell up and buy a TDI will have more torque then you will ever need plus will be miles cheaper on fuel for your big trip.
