starting problems AGAIN
« on: 09 December 2008, 13:38 »
ok so my golf GTi 8v digi si playing up again

when i start cold it is perfect but as soon as the coolent temps rise the engine start's run's for a few seconds then misses a few times (as if the engine is running out of fuel ) then stop's

if i rev the engine it coughs and misses more till it eventually stop's

as soon as it stop's no fuel pump can be heard , but if i turn the ignition off then on again the fuel pump primes and the engine will start again but the whole cycle start's again !!!

i have replaced all the usuall suspect's with GENUINE VW item's including cam belt , dissy cap and rotor arm , plug leads and plug's , coil , oil and filter , fuel filter , airfilter , blue temp sensor

i also replaced due to a bad earth frying it the ECU for the engine

am i correct in saying there is 2 fuel pump's on these cars ??? if so which does wat ?? is there one that primes and one that run's normally ??
L
if i cant fix this problem i WILL have to sell the car   as i need a reliable car for work

PLEASE HELP

1st step, disconnec the plug from the main pump under the car, turn key 1 click.  you should hear the in-tank pump prime, if not its bust, and it needs another, or the wiring to it is bust.

next step, when it starts doing it, get under the car and listen/feel the main pump.  If the pump stops before the car cuts out, this is the problem!  In this case, a new fuel pump relay is #1 on the list if that doesnt help either the ecu earth feed is suspect or the wiring to the under-car pumps.

Edit: Or the main pump itself, this would be the case if you heard the in-tank pump running after the main pump stopped as they both are powered by the same wire.

it wont run at all now when it is warm it just very *friendly* personters for a while and stop's all the time , if i keep my foot in it splutters and comes back for about 30 seconds then starts spluttering again

if i turn the ignition off and on again it will run for about a minuite then spluttering a stop's

i chacked both fuel pump's and they are both ok even when it start's spluttering

the dissy is tight and moving it makes no differance to this problem

it is a new one from america

i have a problem borrowing one as my car has a CAT so not all of them fit and CAT fitted cars are more rare then non CAT

i was wondering if it was that , think i will try a coil and a ignition amp , think some thing is loosing it's ing feed
