Small screw found in tyre. Should I change it?

Quick one.

I found a small screw in my rear R/H side tyre just now. It was a very small screw, only about 1cm in length and thankfully it had gone through the thick/deepest thread so I don't think it made it far enough in to do any real damage and the tyre hasn't lost any air.

My question is - is the tyre ok or should I just have it changed to be safe? I don't fancy a high speed blow-out on the motorway if the tyre has been weakened or compromised in any way, but it was a tiny screw and I'm pretty sure it hasn't done any real damage.

The tyres are Michelin Pilot Exaltos.

What to do? Cheers.

BTW, I took the screw out in case that wasn't clear..

have you checked properly for a leak, I.e some fairy liquid and water, it's a hard call really as it's probably fine and I possibly would leave it, but the again for the sake of a hundred quid or so is it worth the risk ?, let's see what others say

The repairs they do these days are exceptionally good. I am a bit funny with tyres and used to change straight away. Personally, as the repairs are good I would get it repaired and spend the money on something nice!

Get it repaired if its gone through - if not dont bother, if it had come out itself you wouldnt know.

If it was the sidewall, I'd say get it replaced. But since its not, and it hasn't even lost air, I reckon you're ok. Perhaps get a local tyre fitter to have a look at it anyway.

Absolutley! That goes without saying, I think if it is within half inch of the edges your ok(tyre shop would confirm)

I had the same happen a while ago - Got it repaired with a plug - Not worth risking.

Considering a new tyre has about 8mm tread, this would leave very much less thickness on a worn tyre.
Play safe have it plugged. Only costs about a tenner to do.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll drop it up to my local tyre place and let them take a look to be safe.
