the old 8v vs 16v debate.

use the search function to have a look at some of the various threads that are on this subject before you open a can of worms

my two pence worth though is that 16v's are better. I have had both.

16v every time for me as well.    it's better out the box and easyer to tune if you want to
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

They are both great cars but the 16v is obviously quicker! I'd much rather have a 16v because I'm not stupid (theoretically speaking)

It'll cost more to run though as slightly less MPGs and higher insurance. If that isn't an issue get a 16v, if it is then get an 8v.

Can we have a sticky of 8v or 16v?! I think everyone is fed up of it!

don't buy a gt turbo ( if you could find one ). A 20 year old renault is gonna be a huge expensive ball ache.

I've owned both at the same time so for what it's worth....

8v is probably best for day to day driving.

16v is scary fast over 5k revs but you need to drive like a nutter to reach that after 2nd gear.

you decide....

If I could I'd have a 16v over a 8v any day, purely because they keep pulling when the 8v's give up. (from what I've read).

If you have the knowledge, time and money I'm sure many on here would say get a cheap shell and go for a 2.0 16v ABF coversion
