I never trust stealers (no suprise there) so how do we check what oil they have used?

Nice one thanks, I asked for time and distance but I got long life top up oil so I don't know what they put me on in the end !!
if your car was on long life service can you just take it in at 12 months and have the time/Distance and get it set to td always ?

Yep.

But the crucial thing is to ensure they still continue to use the much higher spec, and better quality LongLife 3 oil.  Sometimes the stealers will use the old skool 502.00 oil, which is OK, but certainly not as good as the LL3 brew.  Best bet is to take your own oil in.

Unless you physically watch them pump it from the correct barrel, you will never really know!

But if you have doubts, then you can send a sample to Castrol (providing the stealer has its bulk contract with Castrol), and ask for an oil analysis.  I've had to do that before, and it saved me about £22½k in dosh - but not dub related!   Some crap from Luton!

I agree that most stealers are absolute tools.  On both my previous VW services, they filled in the service book incorrectly - tw@ts!   The first time, they ticked that non-LongLife oil had been used, even though I supplied my own LongLife brew, and the second time, they recorded a completely wrong service, and put the same wrong info on the windscreen sticker.  I really detest the incompetence of my two local VW stealers.  Audi, Seat and Å koda stealers seem considerably better though.

Hmmmm - they usually only give a top up if they've put LongLife in the sump.  Was the service recently?  What does the SID say now?

Well how old is it, and how many miles has it done?  If you then check the SID, you can work out with some simple maths of weather the car was set for LongLife, and roughly what the total projected miles will be between services.  :nerd:

Know the feeling TT - my service book for the first service is stamped on page 2, consequently I have a complete blank double page prior to that. Tossers - I've always been an attention to detail guy and this pi$$es me off no end
