Front PCV ribbed pipe ID ?
« on: 09 September 2008, 17:39 »
About to buy a check valve to install in-line on the rigid ribbed hose that connects the front PCV to the air manifold.
Bar cutting the pipe in half, was wondering if anyone could tell me:

A) ID of the hose.
B) Is it smooth walled inside or ribbed like the outside?

Tks

could you post a pic of the hose you're describing in the engine compartment?

That hose is ribbed on the inside to mirror the external ribbing.

Can I suggest you ring http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/ and ask if they have the Eurojet PCV fix in stock as it will do what you are contemplating in a more professional manner. It should also fit under the stock air box.

That's very OTT!

What are the problems peeps are experiencing with the OEM PCV valves and piping?  :undecided:

Thanks for the replies. Have decided for about $21 to give this valve a go...

Looked at the pipe last night. Disconnected the manifold end. Then tried blowing and sucking into it. Could hear and feel the little valve in th PCV pop closed and open. But after a few trys it seemed to stick shut and would not allow suction to open it i.e  simulating pressure from the engine head into the air intake manifold.
Measured the tube, which will be close to 13mm ID.

Not holding pressure when remapped, some see their actual psi drop a little. The concern then was the manifold being put under pressure

Someone tested a new OEM PCV and this was shown to leak slightly

I think another thing people notice is blue smoke from the exhaust at WOT as it burns off the oil which has snuck through

There is quite a bit of info on vortex and golfmk5

Ahh, OK, thanks.

That really shouldn't be a problem, as the pressure in the crankcase won't be that great, and the manifold is designed to specifically cope with the PCV system - unless the rings are really shagged - but then a PCV valve would be the least of your worries.

Oh - that's not good!   Is this a common trait, or are they relatively isolated incidents?  :undecided:

Hmmmm.  This would appear to be more common then.  When I replaced my standard I/C with the S3 one, there was quite a bit of oil which dribbled out of the hoses and the old core.  Yet when I whipped the plugs out, there was no evidence of burning any oil.  :undecided:

Might take another look over the weekend.

Alas, there is far too much chaff before you can find any wheat, particularly on the 'tex.
