there is far too much chaff before you can find any wheat, particularly on the 'tex. 

Dont I know it !!  I spent ages looking into this when I was down on boost slightly.  Also on occasion I also noticed a blue puff from my exhaust which initially worried the sh!t out of me.  I put the PCV fix on and since then I have not seen it again, more recently I also swapped the C revision PCV for the later F revision leaving the PCV in place also - not noticed it since.

Note: F was the latest revision to the C version but there are also E and G revisions which only have 1 check valve in, the C and F have 2 - this is down to not having a rear check valve - which the later engines have.  Some people have just blocked it off (noticed this on a couple of cars at Inters this year) but BSH obviously looked into a more permanent more appealling fix - and it does look like they did a fair bit of research.

Is the part number easy to see on the actual PCV valve, or do you need to be a contortionist to view it?

PM is on underside of PCV body, to view, use a mirror or take PCV off.. 

There are small external differenecs between Rev C and later model valves.
This pic is of my old Rev D which I cut up / dismantled to see what was what...

Double check first though,  as that is for the yankie-spec engines, which have a very different emissions control system.

Mine was the C so I needed the F, when I went to the dealer (and I spoke to vagparts too) I gave them the chassis no and part no and they both came back with the latest F as the replacement - so all tied in for me.

All I'll say is there is a difference on ETKA between the yankie and the EU engine variants!    (The yankie engine has a one-way valve, whereas the EU has a 2-way valve  ).

OK, I checked mine over the weekend.

It was an "F" version, and both check valves worked perfectly, holding up very good pressure, and closing positively.  I wasn't able to check the main valve though, although I did clean it with some carb cleaner, and none leaked from where it shouldn't.  (BWA engine in a 2007model year, for reference).

Don't do what I subsequently did though, and sucked on the valves after dousing them with the carb cleaner - a lung full of xylene fumes is not nice!    :embarassed:

Surely you telling people to be careful what they suck into their lungs cannot be taken serious when there is a F**King big 50 skinner directly below this comment in your sig.
