I live in Lincolnshire mate, bought the car from North Wales near Greenfield. Which side did your driveshaft come lose at? was it gearbox end or hub end?

Also can someone tell me the size of the NUT that holds the shaft in the HUB, is it a 30mm?

no way thats where i live greenfield never seen that car around here o well.

gearbox side m8

not speaking from a vw point of view as i know bugger all about vw's but i had a similar thing happen on one of my hondas.
I think your right with the driveshaft, mine turned out to be the bearings, failing that it could be a cv joint

car stands me at £2350 mate, which is a real bargin.

The fault on my car seems to be the N/S CV joint, has alot of play in it. Is this a common fault with Golf's?

been struggling to get the bottom arm seperated from the suspension leg, do you have to remove the bottom ball joint completley or can you just prise the bottom arm down to get the ball joint out?
